Contra Costa County Election Results Now Final

On Thursday, Recorder-Registrar of Voters, Kristin Connelly has certified the Contra Costa County March 5, 2024 Primary Election Voter turnout ended up being 37.94%.

In Contra Costa County, Democrats Mike Barbanica and Shanelle Scales-Preston will battle it out for the District 5 Board of Supervisor seat with both offering voters similar, yet different platforms as Barbanica has had a career in law enforcement, while Scales-Preston has worked for elected officials since graduating college–both are solid people.

In the State Assembly District 15 race, Antioch City Councilwoman Monica Wilson bombed having received a huge fundraising lead and all the key endorsements… now Democrats are scrambling in this race with Anamarie Avila Farias who they didn’t want in Sacramento–they wanted Wilson. The biggest thing I’ve heard the last few weeks by many Democrats were they didn’t want to endorse Farias but their hands were tied by “the party”. Many preferred to stay out of it.  As for Sonia Ledo, she is unknown and took the strategy of staying quiet and earn the Republican vote and take a top 2 spot. Heck, I don’t even know where she stands on many things and did not interview. The eyeball test shows Democrats should get behind Farias when its all said and done but Ledo could surprise if many take a stand against Farias for many of her past shenanigans– you know, the whole anyone but Farias pledge!

In Senate District 9, which was always going into the November runoff, Democrats Tim Grayson and Marisol Rubio will heat up as the race was quiet during the primary with no one else in the race. Grayson will have some explaining to do given his housing bills he co-authored, but more importantly, the amount of votes he has missed or failed to cast. However, given Grayson had a 19% advantage in the primary, that is a difficult gap to close but she could do it if Sacramento continues down its current road.

Incumbent Lori Wilson is very beatable now that republicans and moderate candidates are not going to split the votes. Wilson has introduced some of the worst legislation in the state and now wants to increase taxes above Sales Tax limits upon voter approval. She also was named by Senator Scott Wiener to work on raising bridge tolls. A nice lady, but clearly out of touch with voters. If Dave Ennis can get his name and platform out, Wilson could be in trouble.
