On Monday, a body was found in the lake at Los Medanos College-Pittsburg Campus in the city of Pittsburg. The area was taped off with police caution tape.
Although details were limited and not provided, Timothy Leong, spokersperson for the District, said the Contra Costa Community College Police Services Department is conducting the investigation in cooperation with the Contra Costa County Coroner’s Office.
The area around the lake has been reopened. The investigation has determined there is no ongoing threat or danger to the community. The campus will be open on Tuesday as normal.
No other details were provided.
Tuesday Update:
According to the District spokesperson, the body of an approximently 25-year-old male was discovered around 1:00 pm and preliminary information is that there is no indication of evidence that indicates foul play–but they are waiting on an autopsy report which will also tell if drugs or alcohol were related to the death. They are still waiting to confirm the identity of the body from the coroners office to determine if the male was a student at the school, local resident, or a transient.
