The following is a sampling of the Oakley Police Calls reported between September 10-16 which focuses on the higher priority call responses in the City of Oakley.
Freedom High School Administrator Assaulted While Breaking Up Fight
Principal Amaro witnessed a female student and a student who identifies as non-binary in a verbal argument in a hallway of the school. Amaro believed the argument had the propensity to turn violent due to the intensity of it so he tried to guide the female student away from the other student. In this process somehow he and the female student tripped and fell to the ground.
At this point the non-binary student began punching Amaro for a total of what is believed to be up to four times. Amaro suffered injuries to his face and ribs. To my knowledge Amaro has not needed medical care, but I plan on reaching out to him later today to check on him.
Our SRO took a report and that report is being forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office with a recommendation of a felony filing against the non-binary student.
Oakley Domestic Violence Shooting Leaves 1 Dead, 1 Wounded
On September 5 at 4:50 PM Oakley officers were sent to an address in the 1700 block of Pecan Court to check on a female who did not show up for work. The caller stated this was unusual behavior and wanted to make sure everything was ok.
In our initial response we knocked on doors, looked around the property, spoke with neighbors, and called phone numbers. We were not met with any responses from the occupants and we saw nothing out of the ordinary at that time. It is not unusual for officers to do cursory exams of property in situations like this by peering through doors, windows or openings that are readily available to us, but it would not be customary to do anything invasive based on the information we had at the time.
Having seen nothing suspicious at the time our officer left a card on the front door and we cleared this call.
Less than an hour later a neighbor who knew the residents went to the location and while looking around saw two subjects inside the house. The neighbor alerted Oakley Officers who responded back and saw a female in distress. Oakley Officers entered the home and located a male subject with a fatal gunshot wound and a female suffering from a severe gunshot injury.
Medical personnel arrived on scene and the female was air flighted to a local hospital in critical condition. The male subject was pronounced deceased on scene.
Oakley Detectives responded to the scene and took over the investigation. A Deputy from the Contra Costa County Coroner’s Office and Officers from the Contra Costa County Animal Services Department did respond to assist in this case.
“Preliminarily this tragic case appears to be rooted in Domestic Violence. How many times have we heard or thought about a relationship ending in extreme circumstances like the one we are currently investigating. What happened yesterday was completely unnecessary and avoidable. If you, or if somebody you know, are in a dangerous relationship and you feel like there is no way out of it for you I encourage you to reach out to several resources that are available to you.” — Full Story
