4 Cats Saved After Garage Fire in Brentwood Home

On Friday, the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District responded to a report of a house fire on Chamomile Lane in the City of Brentwood.

The fire broke out just after 10:00 am which sent a giant cloud of black smoke into the air which could be observed in most of East Contra Costa County. Crews arrived on scene to smoke and flames coming from the garage area of the home. Crews then mobilized for an offensive fire attack and began working the fire.

Ultimately, the garage fire got up into the attack which prompted fire crews to perform a rooftop ventilation and begin to get water on the fire. It prevented the fire from spreading to the rest of the home.

A short time later the fire was out.

According to Battalion Chief Gil Guerrero, he confirmed it wasn’t a Tesla that started the fire, but rather some sort of electrical issue in the garage, however, the exact cause was unknown. The fire investigator said it was not suspicious in nature and the cause was undetermined.

“The fire started in the garage and we were able to keep it in the garage with minimal damage inside,” said Guerrero. “The Tesla was exposed to fire from the garage and were able to extinguish the Tesla before the battery caught fire which was a huge deal.”

Guerrero added that 4 cats were saved from the house and no injuries reported. No nearby structures were damaged.

Fire crews were on scene for nearly 3-hours. No other information on the fire was provided.

Other Fires Friday:

  • 9:41 am: Prior to this house fire, Contra Costa County fire responded to a field off Highway 4 and Lone Tree Way where a tractor was working, crews arrived to a 1/8 acre fire and were able to limit forward progress to around an 1-acre. That incident was closed in less than an hour.
  • 3:46 pm – CONFIRE respond to the area of 2700 block E Leland in Pittsburg for a vegetation fire but were quickly able to get it under control. No word yet on the size of that fire.

Thank you CONFIRE; busy day, and couple of weeks. Happy you were also able to save the four Brentwood cats.

Hello, thank you for the article on my neighbors. They have been evacuated from the home for the time being. Could you please provide me with the contact email for them or link to a relief fund. I would really like to help out in anyway that I can. They were just a couple blocks down from me. My heart goes out to them. Thank you for your time.
