June 9-15: El Cerrito Police Calls

The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito police calls between June 9-15 according to the  El Cerrito Police Department.

The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.

The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito from June 9th – June 15th.

June 9th

  • Disturbing the Peace – 1100 Block of Arlington Blvd. – At 2:46 AM, officers responded to the location for a third time in regards to a disturbance. The suspect had started a debris fire on the property and was yelling loudly at neighbors. The suspect was placed under Citizen’s Arrest, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department, and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

June 10th

  • Assault / Vandalism – 10012 San Pablo Ave. (Pic N Pac Liquors): At 11:00 PM, an officer reported a suspect entered the store, became upset, and threw a bottle of liquor towards the store employee. The bottle hit several other bottles of liquor behind the employee causing damage. Officers arrived on scene and detained the suspect. The suspect was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department, and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

June 11th

  • Commercial Burglary – 11808 San Pablo Ave. (El Cerrito Glass): At 4:17 PM, an officer reported a suspect cut a chain link fence to the property, shattered a window to a vehicle, and stole miscellaneous items.
  • Fraud – 2600 block of Tulare Ave. – At 4:07 PM, an officer reported a victim called who they believed was technical support for Apple.  The suspect asked the victim to deposit money into an account to pay for services but never assisted the victim with their issues.
  • Stolen Motorcycle – Hill St. / Ohlone Greenway: At 4:26 PM, a victim reports they attempted to sell their motorcycle to a suspect.  The suspect test-drove the motorcycle towards Cutting Blvd but never returned.
  • Robbery – 1000 El Cerrito Plaza (Lucky): At 5:49 PM, a suspect entered the business and stole items.  When confronted by store employees, the suspect assaulted an employee and fled the area on foot prior to police arrival.
  • Warrant Arrest – Fairmount Ave. / Richmond St. At 7:38 PM, officers conducted a pedestrian stop of a subject. During the investigation, the officer found the subject to have two outstanding warrants for their arrest.  The subject was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department, and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

June 12th

  • Stolen Vehicle / Hit & Run – 6600 block of Blake St. At 9:13 AM, a suspect stole the victim’s vehicle and fled toward Cutting Blvd. The vehicle collided with another vehicle on San Pablo Avenue. Officers located the vehicle on the freeway but suspect fled prior to police arrival.
  • Warrant Arrest – San Pablo Ave. / Knott Ave. At 2:51 PM, the City’s License Plate Reader cameras alerted to a vehicle where the registered owner had a warrant for their arrest.  Officers located the vehicle and arrested the driver for the warrant. The investigating agency arrived and took custody of the suspect and the vehicle was towed from the scene.
  • Auto Burglary – 700 Block of Pomona Ave. At 8:13 PM, the victim reported a suspect broke into their vehicle sometime overnight.
  • Robbery – 6060 Central Ave. (Nation’s): At 1:34 AM, two armed suspects entered the business and demanded money from the cash register.  Both suspects fled the area in a vehicle prior to police arrival.

June 13th

  • Petty Theft – 700 block of Kearney St. – At 3:35 PM, the victim reported that their bicycle was stolen.
  • Attempted Petty Theft – 1600 Block of Everett St. – At 2:41 AM, the victim reports a suspect entered their unlocked vehicle and rummaged throughout the interior.

June 14th

  • Trespass – 1000 El Cerrito Plaza (Lucky): At 2:29 PM, an officer accepted the citizen’s arrest of a suspect after Lucky staff stopped them from shoplifting and then refused to leave the store.  According to management, this was the third time the suspect attempted to shoplift from Lucky’s in the day.  The suspect was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility for the likelihood the criminal activity would continue.

June 15th

  • Commercial Burglary – 11687 San Pablo Ave. (Valero): At 12:20 AM, officers were dispatched to a report of a commercial burglary. Officers located a suspect who was located near the business. The suspect was identified through video surveillance and arrested. The suspect was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to MDF.
  • Battery – 11344 San Pablo Ave. (Denny’s): At 1:25 AM, officers accepted the citizen’s arrest of a battery suspect. The suspect was arrested on scene and released on a citation.
  • Vehicle Theft – Hagen Blvd. / Knott Ave. At 6:30 PM, the victim reports the theft of their vehicle.
  • Robbery / Possession of a Controlled Substance – 1000 El Cerrito Plaza (Lucky): At 7:49 PM, an officer reports the arrest of the suspect who struggled with security in taking merchandise from the store. Further investigation found the suspect to be in possession of a controlled substance. The suspect was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department, and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
  • Theft – 670 El Cerrito Plaza (CVS): At 9:50 PM, an officer reported two suspects entered the store and stole items. The suspects fled prior to police arrival.
