According to the item:

The part-time secretary positions will provide administrative support to City Council and be Supervised by the City Manager’s Office. A secretary will be assigned as follows: one for the mayor; one for District 1 and 2 councilmembers; and one for the District 3 and District 4 councilmembers.  Examples of duties include:

ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANTS FOR CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS: Item goes forward in 3-2 vote with Mayor Pro Tem Mike Barbanica and Councilmember Lori Ogorchock against. Antioch Mayor Lamar Thorpe and councilmembers Monica Wilson and Tamisha Torres-Walker in favor.

Thorpe said he was absolutely for this due to the demands and their demands have changed while they are more proactive and not a reactive council. Said they could bring this back when they talk about the budget.

Ogorchock voted “absolutely no”.

Is this a joke? I thought April fools was in April? This reeks of nothing more than people that think very highly of themselves that they need assistants. If you need an assistant to be a representative of the people, you are not qualified for the job.

So the admin assistants will be making more than the council members? Make it make sense.

This is nuts that you need a part time assistant @ 45k to 65k a year. I’m sure there will be benefits along this job. Didn’t Lamar’s last employer just payout 350k? Maybe he’s feeling a little horny. Just saying.

Read your meeting packet. Arrive an hour early and read it before the meeting. Lazy council members. Resign if you don’t have time for the position. Someone will take your place with more sense.

Nonsense and MORE NONSENSE. I could see maybe 1 admin, full-time, serving all three council members at the SAME SALARY they indicated for part-time — totally PREPOSTEROUS to pay a part-time person a full-time salary!

We all NEED TO SAY NO!!!!!

Here’s an idea: Make Mayor Thorpe pay for all of it! He makes an outrageous salary so it would only be a small dent.
