Black Diamond Ballet is celebrating their 10 year Anniversary Performance of Nutcracker this holiday season. This cherished East Bay tradition will return to the El Campanil Theatre and run for two consecutive weekends beginning December 10th through the 18th.
Under the direction of Artistic Director and Choreographer Sharon Sobel Idul, the 2022 production of Nutcracker will showcase new variations in the Second Act that will bring more cultural relevance and diversity to the traditional story of a girl who receives a gift of a magical nutcracker that comes to life.
“The goal of the enhancements is to highlight cultures that reflect our diverse community as featured characters of this traditional holiday story,” said Idul who founded Black Diamond Ballet as a non-profit organization with the intention of bringing classical ballet, culture, and dance education to East Contra Costa County.
Black Diamond Ballet values creating accessible theatre experiences for all individuals in our community. They are committed to increasing access and inclusion for those with cognitive or physical disabilities. At their sensory-friendly performance of the beloved Nutcracker ballet, sensory modifications are balanced with preserving an engaging theatre experience for all individuals and their families.
In addition to performing for a public audience, educators and their students are invited to attend a special performance of Nutcracker: School Edition. This performance is an abridged version on Thursday, December 8, 2022 and it is available at a specially reduced ticket price of $10.
