Board of Supervisors Set to Welcome Ken Carlson, Name Chair and More

On Tuesday, the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors are set to name Supervisor John Gioia as Board Chair and welcome incoming Supervisor Ken Carlson to the board.

This will occur at the Board of Supervisors annual reorganization meeting.

Carlson will replace retired board chair and former supervisor Karen Mitchoff in the District 4 seat. Carlson, who was a Pleasant Hill City Councilmember beat out Debora Allen by gaining 53.93% of the vote.

The board will also finalize committee assignments which on top of their annual salaries, Board Supervisors also make stipends from multiple committees:

  • Central Contra Costa Solid Waste Authority – $50/meeting; max of 2 paid/month (Andersen & Carlson)
  • East County Water Management Association – $170/meeting; max 6 per month (Burgis w/Glover as alternate)
  • Hazardous Waste Management Facility Allocation Committee – $150 per meeting(Andersen w/Carlson as alternate)
  • Tri-Valley Transportation Council – $100 per meeting (Andersen)
  • West Contra Costa Integrated Waste Management Authority – $50 per meeting (Gioia w/Glover as alternate)
  • Bay Area Air Quality Management District Board of Directors – Per diem of $100/meeting + travel exp; max $6,000 (Carlson w/Gioia as alternate)
