Antioch Police Traffic Stop Leads to Arrest of “Sovereign Citizen”

The Antioch Police Department conducted a traffic enforcement stop of a vehicle who was allegedly driving recklessly on city of Antioch streets. The traffic stop occurred on Jan 6, 2023 at Deerspring Way and Vista Grande Drive.

According to police, the driver refused to identify themselves and claimed they were a “sovereign citizen”. The driver also allegedly refused to follow any commands given of Officer Riosbaas.

Police said after some de-escalation techniques used, Riosbaas was able to explain to the driver the reason for the stop and need for identification. The driver the got out of his vehicle peacefully and a search of the vehicle was conduction.

During the search, officers located a Glock 40 caliber pistol on the passenger seat. The pistol was equipped with an aftermarket switch. This enabled the pistol to fire fully automatic.

No other information was released.

This incident comes less than a week after both the Antioch Police Department and Brentwood Police Department responded to a sideshow of approximently 200 vehicles with several vehicles participating in illegal sideshow activities at Hobby Lobby on Lone Tree Way on January 6, 2023.  Officers mobilized into the parking lot which caused vehicles to disperse. The incident resulted in 2 vehicles being towed and 1 citation issued by police.
