Nice Pull in Antioch Hit by Overnight Burglary

by CC News

At Approximately 1:00 am Thursday, Nice Pull in the City of Antioch were the victims of theft after a burglar broke a window and stole items.

The business, located on Somersville Road, is still calculating the loss in merchandise and damage to the store, but say their glass display was smashed and other damages occurred. No other details were released.

Antioch Police Department has also not released information on the burglary.

The City of Antioch has been hit hard lately with business burglaries with dozens in the past few weeks which includes Monica’s Riverview, at least two churches, and several local restaurants.

In 2023, Antioch businesses have reported 50+ business burglaries to Antioch Police, again, this is only reported crime. This does not include shoplifting, petty theft or organized retail theft.

The burglaries Antioch is experiencing came to the forefront after the Hillcrest Taphouse stated they had a 4-hour response time on a burglary in progress.  The suspects in their incident were arrested within a few days and are believed to be tied to multiple other burglaries. However, the Antioch Police Department planned to release the information sooner, but were muzzled which prompted the Antioch Police Officers Association to issue a  letter, which  police called the arrests positive for the city, but have not been allowed to release the information.

They also highlighted the Mayor of Antioch as being the reason for low staffing levels, regardless of a bonus program.

“The reason we are addressing this now is because of the constant misrepresentations we see about our staffing levels and recruitment efforts being put forth by Mayor Thorpe. It cannot be said with enough emphasis that one of the major driving forces causing officers to leave our agency is the dangerous and irresponsible rhetoric coming from the Mayor.”

The Antioch Police Department confirmed they only have 30 patrol officers available currently due to staffing shortages while the department sits at 78 active officers total. Here is a look at historical context of officers.

  • 2023: 115,000 residents w/78 officers
  • 2022: 115,000 residents w/102 officers (October)
  • 2020: 115,000 residents w/115 officers (May 18 Facebook Post)
  • 2013 -107,000 residents w/ 88 officers
  • 2012: 103,000 residents w/80 officers

Thorpe is cancer March 2, 2023 - 3:13 pm

No cop wants to work in that terrible city , in a terrible department that is not appreciated and undermined by a racist mayor that has placed all his pawns into positions of power.
As long as Thorpe is mayor, Antioch will continue to go down the drain its in!
