National 30×30 Pledge Aims to Bring More Women into Policing to Improve Public Safety, Community Outcomes, and Trust in Law Enforcement

The Antioch Police Department has signed on to the 30×30 Pledge – a focused effort to improve the representation and experiences of women in law enforcement. The 30×30 Initiative helps policing agencies assess the current state of a department with regard to gender equity, identify factors that may be driving any disparities and develop and implement strategies and solutions to eliminate barriers and advance women in policing.

These actions address recruitment, assessment, hiring, retention, promotion, and agency culture.

The Pledge is the foundational effort of the 30×30 Initiative – a coalition of police leaders, researchers, and professional organizations who have joined together to advance the representation and experiences of women in all ranks of policing across the United States. The 30×30 Initiative is affiliated with the Policing Project at NYU School of Law and the National Association of Women Law Enforcement Executives (NAWLEE).

The ultimate goal of the 30×30 Initiative is to reach 30 percent of women in police recruit classes by 2030, and to ensure policing agencies are truly representative of the jurisdiction the agency serves. While 30×30 is focused on advancing women in policing, these principles are applicable to all demographic diversity, not just gender.

Steven Ford, Chief of Police: “Throughout the history of law enforcement, women have been under-represented in policing. We are making a commitment to join more than 285 law enforcement agencies across the country in a mission to empower women in policing. Not only does this project move us closer to representing the demographic diversity we serve, but it has been proven that women involved in policing have an immensely positive influence on an organization’s culture. Ultimately, this pledge means that Antioch PD is actively working toward improving the representation and
experiences of women in our agency.”

“We are grateful to the Antioch Police Department for being one of the first in the nation to commit to being a part of this growing movement” said Maureen McGough, co-founder of the 30×30 Initiative, Chief of Staff of the Policing Project at the New York University School of Law, and former policing expert at the U.S. Department of Justice. “We believe strongly that advancing women in policing is critical to improving public safety outcomes. We look forward to having more agencies follow Antioch PD’s lead by signing the pledge and improving the representation and experiences of women in policing.”

Men are under-represented in nursing. Is there a push to hire more male nurses?

Hire the most qualified. Regardless of sex, race, religion.

Antioch is in the toilet so deep they need to advance any cop willing to work in a city thats run by an idiot mayor and his stooge torrezwalkerfelon, is grossly understaffed and severely underpaid.

When there are cities more competently managed than Antioch why would anyone want to put up with working for Antioch. Offering a $30,000 signing bonus doesn’t seem to be swelling APD ranks. Why would an officer want to work for a city infected by wokeism and facing budgetary red ink. Last economic downturn weren’t Police officers laid off?
Antioch is but a shell of what it was in 1980s a result of poor management and city council decisions.

No officers were laid off. However, all the Community Service Officers were, even though a small number were rehired about 3 years later — testing my memory with the “about 3 years later” haha.

You are correct, past city councils made some really poor decisions, and the current council (majority) is no exception.

How about a commitment to keeping Antioch safer? Year after year of nothing but the same with the exception of more crime and police salaries/bonuses going higher. Police department is a joke, starting at the top!

Can we just go back to hiring the best possible candidates regardless of race or sex of a person? I want the best cops possible in any community. Can we just get to the 115 best cops Antioch can possibly have. Officers of all walks of life who are honest, have character, care about the community they serve, able to build relationships and trust, and are good at their jobs. I don’t care if it is a man or woman, we just need patrol officers.

I was one one of the families who moved to Antioch in 1990 for the cheap home prices and blindly believed that it was the “land of milk and honey”. Which it was, but only for a little bit. Other families moved from Richmond, San Francisco, Oakland and even San Jose. They kept their jobs in those cities and
would do the long commute while their unattended children roamed the streets and that started the incline in many of the crimes. Antioch’s refusal to clean up the Sycamore area was another boost to the crime rate. I have personally seen police officers drive by the corner of L Street and Sycamore where packs of people are loitering and the police know they are selling drugs, amongst other things. Many times they never stop nor do they arrest anyone. Also, the surge in the homeless population, partly caused by COVID and the closing of so many businesses has not helped either.
I don’t know what
our mayor is doing because there is NO evidence of it!! Like so many others, I’ve decided to sell my home and get out while the getting is GOOD!! My “land of milk and honey” has soured and has turned into the “devils den!”
