PLEASANT HILL, Calif. – Three educators from Contra Costa County received the coveted Warren W. Eukel Teacher Trust award for exceptional work in the classroom as K-12 teachers. A celebratory awards dinner took place at the Lafayette Hotel on May 4, 2023.

The dinner was hosted by Chef and Radio Host Narsai David, and former KPIX news anchor Ann Notarangelo was the Master of Ceremonies. Nominated by principals, colleagues, and students, the recipients were each awarded $10,000 for exhibiting extraordinary commitment to their students.

“I was delighted to attend the 29th annual Warren W. Eukel Teacher Trust Awards dinner and hear stories about these three amazing educators,” Contra Costa County Superintendent of Schools Lynn Mackey said. “Thank you to the folks that nominated these teachers and helped shine a spotlight on what they do daily in their classrooms. We all should be proud of these hard-working teachers who are committed to helping kids in our county.”

The following teachers are 2023 Warren W. Eukel Teacher Trust Award recipients:

  • Dana Tarantino, Northgate High School, Mt. Diablo Unified School District
  • Kris Berry, Ellerhorst Elementary School, West Contra Costa County Unified School District
  • Claire Scott, Stanley Middle School, Lafayette Elementary School District

About Contra Costa County Office of Education

One of 58 counties in California, Contra Costa County has the 9th largest public-school student population in the state (approximately 158,401 students). Officially established in 1932, the CCCOE has a long history of providing direct services to some of our county’s most vulnerable students, including young people who are incarcerated, homeless, or in foster care, as well as students who have severe physical or emotional challenges.

CCCOE also provides support services to schools and school districts in Contra Costa County; services that can be handled most effectively and economically on a regional basis rather than by each of the county’s 285 schools or 18 school districts. These services range from budget approval and fiscal support to technology infrastructure, communication support, and high-level professional development opportunities for educators. CCCOE maintains a website at www.cocoschools.org
