Vehicle Crash Ignites Vegetation Fire on Highway 4 Near Pittsburg

At 11:20 am Monday, the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District was dispatched to a report of a solo vehicle crash on Highway 4 at San Marco in the eastbound direction.

It was reported that a vehicle hit the shoulder and was on fire which ignited a vegetation fire.

As of 11:24 am, firefighters arrived on scene to a vehicle fully engulfed and approximently 1/4 acre of vegetation on fire. There is also a possible threat to home.

The fire had grown to over 1-acre up against the sound wall.

By 11:27 am, CONFIRE said the fire had grown to 2-acres with homes threatened. It was also reported that the vehicle involved in the crash had no occupant inside.

By 11:35 am, the fire had grown to 5-acres as additional CONFIRE units were being requested.

As of 11:41 am, CONFIRE stated forward progress had been stopped.  It was reported the occupant in the vehicle had been transported to an area hospital.

As of 12:48 pm, crews were breaking down the incident and the fire was estimated at 3-acres in size.

I drove by this. East bound traffic was a mess. The car was way up in the hillside too. The car was totally burned out.
