Arson Suspected in AutoZone Fire in Pittsburg

Early Monday morning, the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District responded to a report of two vehicles on fire at Auto Zone in the city of Pittsburg. They believe it to be arson.

According to the Contra Cost County Fire Investigator Kevin Brown, he said two vehicles were set on fire which was intentional based on video evidence. The vehicles were parked closer together in an effort to prevent homeless from siphoning gas from the vehicles.

No other information was released.

Contra Costa Firefighters had a busy Sunday battling several fires:

  • At 7:43 pm, Contra Costa County Firefighters responded to a vegetation fire at Wilbur Avenue and Cavallo in the City of Antioch which believed to have started in a tent. The fire sent a column of smoke into the area. The fire quickly grew to approximently 1-acre and structure protection was directed to Nash Avenue. Crews were able to get control of the blaze before it spread or threatened homes. Antioch Police Department were requested to assist with the homeless in the area. The fire was contained at 4-acres.
  • At 6:48 pm, Contra Costa County Firefighters responded to a vehicle fire which ignited a 1-acre vegetation fire at Fairview and Concord Avenue. Crews were able to get control of the fire to limit the spread.
  • At 5:24 pm, Contra Costa County Firefighters responded to Sand Creek and Shady Willow in Brentwood for a report of a tree on fire. It spread to 1/4 acres before crews stopped the fire.
  • At 4:32 pm, Contra Costa County Firefighters responded to a residential structure fire in the 1300 block of Shell Avenue in the City of Martinez. The fire was upgraded to a two-alarm response before crews were able to determine there were no additional exposures. The blaze engulfed the home with flames through the roof. The fire was knocked down by 5:14 pm.
  • At 1:08 pm, Contra Costa County Firefighters responded to the 1300 block of W 4th Street for a report of a vegetaiton fire. The fire was quickly under control at 1/4 acre in size.
