Contra Costa Firefighters Rescue Autistic Male from Delta Waters in Discovery Bay

For the second time Friday, Contra Costa County Firefighters entered the delta waterways for a water rescue.

Just after 6:00 pm, crews entered the water in the Town of Discovery Bay in the area of 2025 Cypress Point after it was reported a 25-year-old autistic male entered the water and floated away. He was wearing a life vest at the time he floated away.

By 6:30 pm, firefighters were on scene and using both a drone and H30 helicopter overhead.

By 6:40 pm, information was relayed the male was a “strong swimmer” wearing a blue life vest, yellow shirt and would fight anyone in the water with him. A neighbor was also in the water on a boat looking for him.

It was also reported he may have drifted past Sand Point near lighthouse and was possibly on a white floaty divice.

Update:
H30 has located him near Discovery Point  at 6:57 pm… they still had not yet made contact and were attempting to get him onto a dock or dry land in Discovery Bay.

CONFIRE firefighters had them on their boat and were attempting to bring him back to his parents.

Contra Costa Firefighters Searching For Missing Person in Delta Waters in Antioch

The call came in around 12:50 pm Friday in the area of Fulton Shipyard in the area of West Island. It was reported that two people were in the open waters of the Delta near a boat. Contra Costa County Fire responded along with the US Coast Guard. — full story

Previous Rescues

  • July 16 — Antioch Marina — water rescue… person fell off a jet ski.  Both occupants on jet ski are back on land after being picked up by another boat. All units now cancelled (4:43 pm)
  • July 9 — Discovery Bay —  water rescue in area of 1400 Discovery Bay Blvd… crews in area attempting to locate (6:06 pm). Per family victim, person jumped off the boat. Still unable to locate. Unknown outcome
  • July 4Bay Point — water rescue after a boat launch and engine not working, 3 people on a boat floating in the water. No medical, just a recovery of a boat that is not working.
  • June 25 – Antioch Marina — missing boater who had not come in on time. Boat became disabled and drifted. Later located.
