Join the City of Walnut Creek for Arts Around August, in its 3rd year, is a month-long celebration of the performing, visual and culinary arts in downtown Walnut Creek.

Events and activities are planned throughout the month of August, including experiences for both families and adults like Summer Concerts at Broadway Plaza, First Wednesday Street Fest, Downtown Stages, Moveable Feasts, Family Day at the Lesher Center, Pop-up Opera performances and many more activities!

Event Schedule

August 2 – Walnut Creek First Wednesday Street Fest (5:30 pm to 9:00 pm)

Come downtown to Cypress Street (between Locust & Broadway Streets) on August 2, 2023 from 5:30pm to 9:00pm for an evening of entertainment, art, beer/wine, food, activities and shopping from artisan vendors. This year’s live music line-up will be great! Explore all of what Downtown Walnut Creek has to offer at this family-friendly street fest. This is a free public event and all are welcome! First Wednesday is one of the largest outdoor downtown festivals this summer and kicks off the Walnut Creek Arts Around August celebration. — more info & tickets.


August 3:  Summer Concert Series Featuring Tainted Love (7:00 pm to 8:30 pm)

This event (The Best of the ’80s Live) is held on Broadway Plaza Street, which is the street running through Broadway Plaza.  The stage will be on the Nordstrom side of the center. Limited seating provided; bringing your own chairs is encouraged.  More info


August 6:  Opera in the Park II

August 9: Moveable Feast

Immerse yourself in an upscale, progressive food and beverage tour featuring three of Walnut Creek’s best restaurants. The tour includes gourmet bites with beverage pairings, exclusive culinary presentations by chefs/staff, and interesting public art stops along the way.

STARTING LOCATION FOR ALL TOURS: Check-in at 5:45 pm. Meet at the Fountain Head (in front of Mechanics Bank) at 1350 N. Main Street. Present your mobile or printed ticket(s) to the tour guide.

  • 5:45pm – Check-in & orientation (5:45-6pm)
  • 6:15pm – World Famous Hotboys (6:15-7pm)
  • 7:15pm – Benvenuti Ristorante (7:15pm-8pm)
  • 8:15pm – Massimo Ristorante (8:15-9pm)

Each Moveable Feast event will consist of visits to 3 restaurants & a public art tour in between stops led by Bedford Gallery docents. Each tour has a max capacity of 26 people. Ages 21+ only. August 18 – Festival Opera Presents: Carmen by George Bizet (7:30 pm)

Famous for its use of Spanish and Cuban dances such as the Habañera and Seguidilla, Carmen has some of the most well-known music of the operatic repertoire. Inspired by the real, scandalous tales collected by Prosper Mérimée, the author of the original 1845 novella, Carmen is a dramatic tale of love, jealousy and tragedy. It tells the story of a hopeless soldier, Don José, who becomes obsessed with Carmen, a fiery woman with an appetite for love and somewhat shady business ventures. Abandoning his childhood sweetheart Micaëla and turning his back on his military career, the opera follows José in his pursuit of Carmen’s attention. Though, despite his efforts, stalking, and desperation, Don José’s quest for love doesn’t end how he’d hoped — tickets


August 19 – Family Mural Art Walk & Markers Market Artisan fair  (10:00 am)

Meet on the Rudney Plaza, out front of Lesher Center for the Arts . Experience Walnut Creek’s colorful collection of murals on this Public Art Walking Tour designed for families. A Bedford Gallery Docent will lead you through a one hour tour geared for all ages. Dress comfortably for this less than one mile walk. — more info
