On Tuesday, without specifically naming Gaza and Israel, Antioch Mayor Pro Tem Tamisha Torres-Walker called for a ceasefire and urged leaders to condemn all terrorist actions on both sides.
“Passive leadership is confusing, and it lacks pointedness. We should be reflecting what the world is going through right now and condemn all terrorist actions on both sides of the issue facing the Muslim and the Jewish community. We should all be calling for a ceasefire on all sides. We should be condemning colonialism in all its forms. In this moment we should be finding ways locally to be bringing together the Muslim and Jewish community and the discussion on how we build unity at the basic level. Free Palestine until its backwards, condemn terrorist actions on all sides and ceasefire.”
Her comments came during council communications but no future agenda item request were issued Tuesday. It is unclear if she will request a resolution be brought back at a future meeting.
Torres-Walker’s comments also come as the the Richmond City Council Passes Resolution to Support Palestinians in Gaza. That meeting was 7-hours and had more than 200 public comments. The Richmond City Council ultimately voted 5-1 to approve a resolution affirming Richmond’s Support and Solidarity with the Palestinian People of Gaza.
During is Mayors comment, Antioch Mayor Lamar Thorpe asked residents to save the date of November 30 where he will hold a unity and healing service with multi-faith leaders with representatives from the Jewish community, a representative from the Muslim faith and a representative from the Christian faith and individuals who also do not have a faith but take some time to pause, reflect and heal from the last year.
He also says he will give keys to the city for people in the community who have worked to bring people in the community together.

Isn’t it pathetic that local governments think that international affairs are within their purview? The city council of Antioch (or any city) has neither any expertise nor mandate to comment on this issue and should just STFU.

Yes, it is – and were I a resident of Antioch I would be communicating my displeasure at this city council most clearly to them. Fortunately for me, I an NOT an Antioch resident.
I’m sure that her neighbors would have called for a cease fire when there was gunfire at her house.

I think Ms Walker should really think before she speaks. This is the same lady who had a party at her home, shots fired and interfered with police. The community still has not seen the police body camera footage of Ms. Walker’s interaction with police. This woman is a phony. Why have we not had her publicly call for a ceasefire in Antioch or in East County in general. An Antioch resident was just arrested for shooting a 16 year old boy in Oakley. How about calling for a ceasefire in all of California? Clean up your own community first before worrying about the middle east.

Antioch has much bigger issues to address than this. Make a trip to Switzerland and boom, you’re an expert on world politics. Ok Ms. Walker you got your 30 seconds of fame now get back to solving the communities problems. The vagrant invasion, vehicle thefts, our dangerous streets, the exodus of quality staff, bringing business back to Antioch and most importantly rebuilding and supporting our Police Department.
