SACRAMENTO – Lieutenant Governor Eleni Kounalakis sent a letter to California Secretary of State, Dr. Shirley Weber, urging her to explore legal options to remove former President Donald Trump from California’s 2024 presidential primary ballot following the Colorado Supreme Court’s ruling in Anderson v. Griswold (2023 CO 63).
The Colorado Supreme Court held that Trump’s role in inciting the January 6, 2021, insurrection disqualifies him from standing for presidential election under section three of the Fourteenth Amendment.
Its likely that the US Supreme Court will rule on whether Donald Trump will appear on the Colorado Ballot as the Supreme Court has the final say about constitutional matters.
Last week, The California Secretary of State’s Office confirmed Friday that state law prohibits Assemblymember Vince Fong (D-Bakersfield) from running as a candidate for the 20th Congressional District of California because he had previously filed paperwork to run for reelection to the California State Assembly.

Governor, Kounalakis has served as acting governor on several occasions, including becoming the first female to sign a bill into law— Acting Governor Eleni Kounalakis signed legislation that extends eviction protections for Californians participating in rental assistance programs, making her the first woman in California’s history to sign a piece of legislation into law.
