On Wednesday, the Antioch Police Department responded to a report of a vehicle crash on Empire Avenue near Lone Tree Way in the City of Antioch.

The crash occurred at 6:06 am on Empire Avenue between Wicklow and Lone Tree Way. Antioch Police blocked southbound traffic to allow fire crews to work the scene–northbound lanes remained open.

When officers arrived they located a fully involved vehicle on fire after it had struck a pole, a fire hydrant, hopped the curb and came to rest against a tree. The person driving the vehicle fled the scene and was not located. The vehicle was apparently stolen and was “a rental” according to police.

Contra Costa County Fire arrived on scene to put out the vehicle fire while also limiting a small spread of vegetation that also caught fire. Antioch public works was also called to the scene to assist in turning off the water flow from the busted hydrant.

No other information on the crash was available and no suspect information was provided.
