Fair Robbery – The Contra Costa County Fair was robbed of nearly $90k in receipts Monday after robbery at gunpoint occurred during a deposit. According to multiple sources, they confirmed the incident occurred after the fair closed on Sunday and during a deposit at the BMO Bank on Somersville Road in the  City of Antioch Antioch. When employees were attempting to deposit money from the fair, they were approached by at least one individual with a firearm. The firearm was then allegedly pointed at one of the fair employees heads. They took the fair money and took off. — see story

Traffic Unit:  This week, the Antioch Police Department announced it will bring back its traffic unit. according to Chief Brian Addington, Sgt. Rob Green will be the solo officer on patrol, but he hopes to grow the department to 1 sergeant with 4 officers within a 2-year period. He anticipates a second officer will join the traffic unit in a few months. — full story

DOJ Report —  California Attorney General Rob Bonta, pursuant to Assembly Bill 1506 (AB 1506), today released a report on Guadalupe Zavala’s death from an officer-involved shooting involving the  Antioch Police Department in Antioch, California on December 10, 2021. The report is part of the California Department of Justice’s (DOJ) ongoing efforts to provide transparency and accountability in law enforcement practices. The report provides a detailed analysis of the incident and outlines DOJ’s findings. After a thorough investigation, DOJ concluded that criminal charges were not appropriate in this case. However, DOJ recognizes the important lessons to be learned from this incident. As required by AB 1506, the Attorney General has issued specific policy and practice recommendations related to the incident. — full story
