Here is a rundown of the 2024 Memorial Day Ceremony events across Contra Costa County with several events taking place.


Saturday, May 25: Memorial Day Events

City of Antioch: Join the Delta Veterans Group on Saturday at 9:00 am at the Oak View Memorial Park Cemetery. Come together to commemorate the sacrifices of veterans. Join them at 9:00 am to place flags on our heroes gravesites and pay tribute to those who gave everything to our country. Oak View Memorial Park Cemetery is located at 2500 E 18th Street, Antioch CA.

City of Oakley: Join the City of Oakley at 10:00 am as it holds a honoring and mourning the U.S. military personnel who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. This year, our Memorial Day Ceremony will be held at the Oakley Recreation Center (1250 O’Hara Ave).


Monday, May 27: Memorial Day Events

City of Antioch: At 10:00  am, join the City of Antioch and Delta Veterans Group at Oak View Memorial Park (2500 E 18th St) for its Memorial Day Ceremony. Fire engine escorts with Christian Mounted Messengers, a military aerial flyover, presentation of colors, 9/11 Tribute and more. Note – a pancake breakfast sponsored by Antioch Rivertown Veterans Lions begins at 8:00 am

City of Brentwood: At 9:00 am, join the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10789 and Marine Corps League Det. 1155 will once again host its annual Memorial Day Remembrance at Union Cemetery in Brentwood. Learn About Memorial Day and our Local Heroes – attend the Memorial Day Service in Brentwood and learn about our local heroes. Honor a Gold Star Family – A Gold Star Family is the immediate family member(s) of a fallen service member who died while serving in a time of conflict. The Memorial Day event begins Monday May 27th at 9 AM at the cemetery at 11545 Brentwood Blvd. in Brentwood


City of Concord/Clayton: In honor of Memorial Day, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1525 will be hosting its annual ceremony for the cities of Clayton and Concord at The Grove Park in Clayton at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 27. Honored guests are World War II veterans Chuck Kohler and Jake Larson. If you would like to sit during the ceremony, kindly bring your own chair.


Town of Danville: The Town of Danville is proud to support local military veterans and their families this Memorial Day. Events are scheduled at two Town facilities on Monday, May 27, and the Town Offices will be closed in observance of Memorial Day.

  • The Viet Nam Veterans of Diablo Valley will hold their Annual Memorial Day Remembrance at Oak Hill Park. The public event will 10 a.m.
  • The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 75 and other local veterans organizations will light the Mount Diablo Beacon during a ceremony at the Veterans Memorial Building starting at 8 p.m.

City of Martinez: Join the City at the Alhambra at 10:00 am Cemetery for the raising of the flag, followed by an 11:00 am ceremony at Ignacio Plaza. The ceremony will include messages from commissioners, elected officials, and veterans. To those in the area, please be aware that the Ignacio Plaza ceremony will conclude with a three-volley salute.


City of Pittsburg: Join The United Veterans Council Inc. for a Memorial Day Commemoration to honor the deceased veterans and deceased members of the Armed Forces on Monday, May 27th at 10am. The commemoration will be held at the Pittsburg Memorial (2551 Harbor st.)   For more information, please contact Ty Robinson at (925) 437-3495


City of San Ramon: They will hold their annual Memorial Day event, Monday, May 27, starting at 9:00 a.m. at Memorial Park, 5001 Bollinger Canyon Road. Join neighbors and friends as they honor fallen service members. The Memorial Program will last for approximately 1 hour.


City of Walnut Creek:  Spend part of your Memorial Day in Walnut Creek for the City’s annual tribute to the men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.  The ceremony will begin at 11:00 a.m., and will feature remarks from Mayor Loella Haskew and the music of the Walnut Creek Concert Band. This year, the City is focusing on stories from those who have a personal connection to Memorial Day. Whether it was a lost loved one or friend, of perhaps someone in your family history whom you never had a chance to meet, you’ll hear thoughts from community members as narrated by the City Council.  Patriotic music will be provided by the Walnut Creek Concert Band under the direction of Matt Sadowski, with members of VFW Post 8063 presenting the Colors.  The invocation will be offered by Pastor Bart Garrett from Walnut Creek Presbyterian Church, and the blessing will be given by Rabbi Jennie Chacon from Congregation B’nai Tikvah.  The ceremony, free to the public, will be held in Civic Park at the corner of Civic Drive and North Broadway in downtown Walnut Creek. All are welcome; the event is not limited to residents of Walnut Creek.  The commemoration will end with a procession across the street to the Veterans Memorial outside of City Hall, and the playing of Taps and lowering the flags to half-staff. North Broadway will be closed to traffic between Civic Drive and Cypress Street during the hour-long ceremony. Chairs will be provided, although visitors are welcome to bring blankets or their own chairs.
