Parts of Contra Costa County Under Wind and Flood Advisory

The National Weather Service announced parts of Contra Costa County and the Bay Area could see strong thunderstorms through 7:45 am Tuesday.

At 7:22 am, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along a line extending from near American Canyon to 19 miles southwest of Stinson Beach. Movement was east at 50 mph. No hail is expected, however, wind gusts could reach 40-mph with possible lightning.

  • HAZARD…Winds in excess of 30 mph and locally intense rain.
  • SOURCE…Radar indicated.
  • IMPACT…Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects.

  • San Francisco, Oakland, Antioch, Concord, Berkeley, Richmond, Daly City, Alameda, San Rafael, Novato, Martinez, Pleasant Hill, San Pablo, Lafayette Livermore,, El Cerrito, Hercules, Walnut Creek, American Canyon, Albany, Pinole, Mill Valley and San Anselmo.

Also on Tuesday, parts of the Bay Area are under a flood advisory watch according to the National Weather Service.  Moderate to heavy rain has been falling across portions of the Bay Area since last night. Law enforcement has had reports of roadway flooding so we are issuing a Flood Advisory as steady rain will continue through the morning hours.

Many roads have been closed or are experiencing flooding which is lasting into the morning hours–this includes Alameda County, Contra Costa County, San Francisco, San Mateo and Santa Clara. Roadway flooding could continue until 2:00 pm Tuesday.

Drivers should be aware of minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas and small streams backing up causing water over the roadways. after 0.5 and 1.5 inches of rain have fallen with additional rainfall expected.
