CONCORD, CALIFORNIA  – Concord, California, residents, and visitors have a new month of events to look forward to with Comfort Food Month scheduled for January 2023. According to organizers Visit Concord, the event is a month-long celebration of the thriving food scene in the East Bay community.

“We’re so excited to show off what local restaurants can do,” said Elaine Cortez Schroth, CEO and President of Visit Concord. “Our region has some absolutely incredible food, and now we want to really put Concord on the map for foodies in the East Bay and beyond. Concord is a food destination.”

In the past, Visit Concord helped plan a Comfort Food Week event each year in January, and due to demand, the organization is expanding the popular week into a whole month. Dozens of participating restaurants will offer special deals and dishes, and Visit Concord will provide prizes for guests and social media followers.

The event includes four weeks of culinary themes: Cozy Classics Week, Eat the World Week, Takeout & To-Go Week, and Dessert Week. Some of the dishes on the menu include cream puffs from Beard Papa’s, meatball sandwiches from Parma Deli, tiramisu from Fiore, and decadent hot dogs from a new participant, Hillside Dawgz.

“We have such a huge menu of choices here,” Schroth said. “I think people tend to be surprised at how many different types of cuisine are available, and our food is generally really affordable, as well.”

Comfort Food Month has two main goals, according to Schroth: to highlight the city’s diverse, award-winning restaurants to out-of-towners who may be surprised by the selection and quality of Concord food and also to let residents show their love for hardworking local restaurant owners and staff while they enjoy special deals.

The Concord Taco Trail has been making the news, with more than 40 participating restaurants attracting guests to take eating challenges and post on social media. Food & Wine Magazine did a feature on the trail in October, and numerous food bloggers have also covered the community’s wine scene, diners, burgers, and more.

  • Jan 1-7: Cozy Classics Week
  • Jan 8-14: Eat the World Week
  • Jan 15-21: Takeout & To Go Week
  • Jan 22-31: Dessert Week

Social media followers of Visit Concord can use hashtag #ConcordComfortFood to keep up with all the individual events, as well as see exclusive interviews with a variety of local chefs in a new “Restaurant Insider” series of videos.
