Body of Missing Pittsburg Man Found Along Highway 4 in Concord

Concord Police announced late Saturday that in the afternoon hours, the family of the missing person was searching for him on Highway 4 near Port Chicago Highway. They found his deceased body just off the side of the freeway and CHP was notified.

CHP, having jurisdiction, has called out their detectives. CPD detectives responded to the scene to make contact with CHP and the victim’s family.

The body was found in an area that was searched earlier in the week. At this time, we do not have a conclusive cause of death.

The investigation will continue in the coming days with the Highway Patrol, CPD, and the Coroner’s office.

CHP UPDATE

CONCORD, Calif. – Detectives assigned to the California Highway Patrol’s (CHP) Golden Gate Division (GGD) are investigating the circumstances surrounding a body located near eastbound SR-4 in Concord.

On Saturday, January 7, 2023, at approximately 2:03 PM, officers assigned to the CHP’s Contra Costa Area Office were dispatched to a report of a body being found down an embankment near SR-4, east of Port Chicago Highway. Responding officers discovered the body was likely that of a person reported missing to the Concord Police Department on January 1. Two lanes of SR-4 were closed to allow CHP to conduct their investigation.

The CHP has assumed lead investigative responsibility and will continue to work with the Concord Police Department. Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to call the CHP Investigation Tipline at (707) 917-4491.

Police said in an update:

Since receiving the report of his disappearance, the Concord Police Department has conducted an extensive multi-agency and multi-jurisdictional search for Mr. Lazenby utilizing all available resources including drones, foot patrols, all-terrain vehicles, search and rescue canines, volunteers, the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Department’s Search and Rescue Team, and resources from the California Office of Emergency Services. We’re working closely with the Lazenby family and will continue our efforts to bring him home. The search for Mr. Lazenby is ongoing and anyone with any information that could assist in locating him should contact the Concord Police Department.

 


Concord Police Seek Help Locating Missing Pittsburg Man

Investigators from the Concord Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit are seeking the public’s assistance in locating Damond Lazenby Jr. who was reported missing by his family on Jan. 1, 2023.

Mr. Lazenby’s vehicle was found abandoned in the early morning hours of January 1st, 2023 near the overpass on Port Chicago Highway in Concord. Mr. Lazenby is a Pittsburg resident and has not been seen or heard from since the night of his disappearance.

Damond Lazenby Jr. is described as an African American male, age 19, approximately 6’4”, 170 lbs. black hair, brown eyes, last seen wearing gray and black sweatpants.

Anyone who sees Mr. Lazenby Jr. or knows of his whereabouts should contact the Concord Police Department at 925-671-3333. Please be prepared to provide his current location and clothing description.
