Several Contra Costa Roads Closed Due to Flooding

Overnight rain combined with full canals and saturated grounds have prompted several flooding incidents in East Contra Costa County.  Between the Contra Costa County Public Works Department an CHP, several roadways have been closed due to flooring.

Public Works Reported the following closures as of 7:14 am

  • Deer Valley Rd is closed between Balfour Rd & Marsh Creek Rd due to flooding. Only local traffic is allowed through the area at this time.
  • Deer Valley Rd is closed between Empire Mine Rd & Wellness Way due to flooding. Please avoid the area.
  • Byron Highway is closed between Byron Hot Springs Rd  & Herdlyn Rd due to flooding. Please avoid the area.
  • Highland Rd is closed between Carneal Rd & Manning Rd due to flooding caused by creek overflow. Only local traffic is allowed at this time.
  • Morgan Territory Road is closed between 6311 Morgan Territory Rd – 9401 Morgan Territory Road due to mudslides. Only residents are allowed in the area. 5477 Morgan Territory Rd-5649 Morgan Territory Rd is open to traffic.

Overview

5:45 am: SR4 & Sellers

Water across all lanes of traffic due to canals over flowing.

5:47 am: Brentwood Blvd. & Byron Highway

Report that the roadway was completely flooded. CONFIRE has advised canals are overflowing into roadway.

5:45 am: Marsh Creek Rd / Morgan Territory Rd… report of a mud/rock slide.

Reports of a mud/dirt/rock slide into the roadway, Contra Costa County Sheriff Office is responding to further investigate.

5:41 am – Deer Valley Road Closed

Contra Costa County Public works announced that Deer valley Road is closed between Empire Mine Rd & Wellness Way due to flooding.

4:41 am – Vasco Road and Dyer Rd

Vehicle crash reported at 4:35 am after vehicle into ditch and blocking the slow lane. Hit guard rail and went over the side. Vehicle approx. 50 feet of roadway CHP says SB lane open and as far as they knew (as of 6:36 am) Vasco road still open.

3:52 am – Pittsburg Flooding Prompts Evacuations

Contra Costa County Fire responded to a flooding incident at Harbor & Ventura Dr. and is now assisting residents with evacuations. A bus has been requested to assist with transportation as multiple homes are being evacuated. Firefighters were still providing assistance as of 6:15 am.

2:30 am: Byron Highway / Mountain House

A canal was over filling and flooding the roadway which requested a shutdown to occur. By 4:06 am, Byron Highway at Mountain House NB/SB lanes shut down.  It’s also being reproted that 2,408 are without power in the Town of Byron and Town of Discovery Bay.
