On Friday, the Contra Costa County Office of the Sheriff confirmed Antioch Mayor Lamar Thorpe was in custody as part of his no contest plea of two misdemeanor charges for driving under the influence.
According to sheriff spokesperson Jimmy Lee, he released the following statement:
Per court order, 41-year-old Lamar Thorpe of Antioch was booked yesterday into the Sheriff’s Office Custody Alternative Facility in Martinez. He will serve his time in the Work Alternative Program at the direction of the court.
Lee could not release any additional details.
Back in December, Thorpe plead no contest to the May 20 DUI arrest and the judgement included:
- Two-Days in jail – he got credit for 1 day served and his other day will be through the through the County Sheriff’s Custody Alternative Facility
- Thorpe was placed on three years of probation
- Ordered to pay fines for DUI violations and court fees
- Attend a DUI program for three-months.
Thorpe did not show up in court, but rather he was represented by his attorney, Dan O’Malley.
Back on May 20, Thorpe was charged with two Misdemeanor counts of Driving Under the Influence (DUI) of alcohol on April 1, 2022 by the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office for the March 19 incident in Pleasant Hill.
After an evaluation, a charging decision was made on the following counts:
- Count 1 – Driving under the influence of an alcoholic beverage VC 23152 (a)
- Count 2 – Driving with a .08% blood alcohol content VC 23152 (b)

Mayor Thorpe released the following statement after his arrest morning:
Good Morning Antioch,
I wanted to come before you today because I wanted to share some personal news with you. Last night, after having dinner with a friend, I was pulled over by the California Highway Patrol and cited for driving under the influence. For that I take full responsibility.
Under the advice of counsel, I am limited in what I can share with you. But I felt it was important to be open and direct with you.
Although I never felt inhibited by the drink I had with my dinner and I am deeply sorry for the lapse in judgment and I hope you can forgive me.
Being your mayor has been one of the greatest honors of my life and I am sorry if I have embarrassed you in any way. You have my full commitment that I will grow and learn from this moment and will continue to work diligently for the residents of Antioch.

Was going to comment on our DUI mayor, that had the most powerful drink of all time that landed him in jail but his published lie speaks for itself.
So when is he going to step down as he cant follow the laws.
Why are network news not doing a story on long list of his antics?? How many other local Mayors in jail and get to keep the office??

I have reached out to local news agencies about the shenanigans in Antioch and gotten no response. The citizens deserve to have some sort of oversight, as the city is suffering while the “leadership” plays games. How much worse is it going to get?
