Brentwood Retail Theft Operation Nets 14 arrests

Brentwood Police Chief Tim Herbert informed the city council last week when they discussed whether or not to support AB 23 conducted an organized retail theft operation with the CHP which resulted in several arrests.

On Thursday, police released the details where the taskforce and loss prevention responded to “in progress” thefts at several retailers at the Streets of Brentwood shopping mall and Sandcreek Crossing Shopping Plaza.

Overall, the operation resulted in 14 suspects being apprehended and $5,409 worth of stolen property being recovered.

In conducting these operations, it was the goal to make arrests, identify prolific retail thieves, deter future crime, support our local businesses and create an atmosphere where people feel safe to work and shop in Brentwood.

In addition to apprehending thieves, officers also witnessed a juvenile male brandish a replica firearm while walking through the crowded Streets of Brentwood plaza. Due to the time of night it was unknown if the firearm was real and the officers quickly detained the juvenile male without injury to any involved parties.

The Crisis: Retail and Residential Theft is on the Rise in California

According to the Californians Against Retail & Residential Theft, they highlight crime is on the rise in California.

In California’s largest cities, property crimes are up in 2022:

  • Los Angeles PD reports a 9.1% increase for the first 11 months of the year.
  • San Francisco PD reports a 4.4% increase for the first 11 months.
  • San Jose PD reports a 17.2% increase for the first 10 months.
  • Stockton PD reports a 9.5% increase in property crime for the first 10 months.
  • Long Beach PD reports a 9.8% increase in property crime for the first 9 months.
  • Sacramento PD reports a 16.9% increase over the first 5 months.

The National Retailers Federation survey found inventory shrinkage, loss due to theft and fraud, is at a five-year high. The report further found a nearly 60% increase in losses over the past five years — full story.

Editors Question:

When did we stop caring about petty theft and retail thefts? Is it because companies have insurance? What ever happened to right and wrong that if you want something, you pay for it. At what point, do we stop shopping at stores who do not hold criminals accountable and decline prosecution?

Gavin Newsom, AG Beccera, Biden Administration 100% responsible for this because of their crime with no consequences policies in total disregard for taxpayers. Citizens should organize, hire an attorney, quit paying state income and property taxes and take legal action. What they are doing is not legal. .😞
