Pittsburg Police Investigating Bomb Threat at Pittsburg High School

On Thursday, the Pittsburg Police Department responded to Pittsburg High School after a threat was made mentioning the campus. The incident began at approximently 10:30 am.

BART Police is also on scene assisting with K9’s.

At 11:14 am, Principal Todd Whitmire released the following statement to families of students:

“Good Morning

Parents; the Pittsburg Police Department received information regarding a possible bomb threat on our Pittsburg High School Campus. The anonymous caller mentioned Pittsburg High School. Out of an abundance of caution, the decision was made to lock down the campus while Pittsburg Police Investigates. Pittsburg Police are currently on campus now as part of our campus safety protocol. We will keep you updated.

As of 11:50 am, Pittsburg Police was still on the campus investigating.

2:00 PM Update NEWS RELEASE REGARDING BOMB THREAT:

At 10:20 this morning, Pittsburg Police dispatch received a call from an anonymous male stating he had placed explosives on the Pittsburg High School campus.  The Pittsburg Police Department, in partnership with the Pittsburg Unified School District, have a School Resource Officer on the campus who was able to immediately communicate and coordinate with school staff.  As with any threat, this was taken very seriously.  Resources were immediately dedicated to the investigation and coordination with the school district for student safety.

Officers and school staff initially worked on a safe area for the students to wait while coordinating an extensive search of the campus with specially trained K9’s and officers.  However, out an abundance of caution and due to the size of the campus, the school district coordinated an early release schedule for the students.  All students were escorted away from the campus and the school district arranged their release to parents at this location.

This is still a very active investigation and updates will be released when available.  The campus is currently cordoned off for safety and all are asked to avoid the area.  Anyone with information should contact Detective Salamanca at 925-252-4017

5:00 pm UPDATE REGARDING BOMB THREAT:

After an extensive and exhaustive search by law enforcement and the specially trained K9’s, the Pittsburg High School campus was found to be safe, and no explosives were found.  The Pittsburg Police Department will continue its partnership with the Pittsburg Unified School District and have additional officers on campus in the coming days.

Detective are continuing to follow up on leads as to who and why this threat was made.  The Pittsburg Police Department would like to thank all the students and their parents for their cooperation given the circumstances of todays event.
