Essayli announces AB 1314

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Today Assemblyman Bill Essayli announced AB 1314, which will require schools to notify parents if their child identifies as transgender.

“AB 1314 is simple and straightforward; if a child requests to be publicly addressed by a gender pronoun other than their sex at birth, or to use facilities of a different gender, a parent must be notified. Public policy should never presume a parent does not have the best interest for their child—however policies at schools across the state do just that. My bill will reset the appropriate relationship between educators and parents, and reaffirm that children are the domain of their parents, not the government.” remarked Assemblyman Bill Essayli.

According to a recent study reported by NPR, transgender youth are less likely to feel depressed with parental support. Parents play a critical role in nurturing and supporting children, and they cannot be removed from the equation.

California State Senator Scott Wiener issued a statement on the Bill:

A DeSantis-style bill was just introduced in CA to require teachers/counselors to inform parents if a kid id’s as a gender not on birth certificate. Even if the kid isn’t ready to come out to their parents. Even if ratting the kid out risks violence at home. Nope, not in CA.” said Wiener.

This prompted a response from Essayli:

“Senator @Scott_Wiener, I encourage you to read the bill and my thread. My bill is aimed at supporting trans minors, not hurting them. The notification requirement is only triggered when a minor is already publicly identifying by a different gender at school,” stated Essayli,

Assemblyman Bill Essayli represents the 63rd Assembly District in the California Legislature, which includes the whole cities of Norco, Menifee, Lake Elsinore, and Canyon Lake, as well as portions of the cities of Eastvale, Riverside, and Corona.
