Congressman DeSaulnier Statement on Debt Ceiling Vote

Mark DeSaulnier

Washington, D.C. Congressman Mark DeSaulnier (CA-10) issued the following statement on his vote on H.R. 3746, which passed the U.S. House of Representatives by a vote of 314-to-117.

“While defaulting on our debt is not an option, I voted against this bill because I refuse to reward the political extortion of the extreme faction of the Republican Party,” said Congressman DeSaulnier. “Instead of performing their constitutional duty and raising the debt ceiling to avoid economic catastrophe, the Majority held the country hostage, and refused to let it go without cuts to benefits working Americans rely on, rollbacks of environmental protections, and making it easier for the ultrawealthy to skirt tax laws. Though I am grateful to my Democratic colleagues and President Biden for keeping some of the most harmful, extreme proposals out of this bill, the fact remains that we never should have been in this crisis manufactured by Republicans in the first place.”

Silly political grandstanding from Mr. DeSaulnier. The essence of democracy is compromise, Congressman. Your caucus doesn’t get everything it wants any more than the “Freedom Caucus” gets everything it wants. Move on.

You got to keep 90% of the money for your “armed irs agents” . Biden and schumer got a blank check for next 18 months. The tax payers got the shaft.

How disingenuous he is: “While defaulting on our debt is not an option, I voted against this bill …” — if defaulting is not an option, then voting against the bill is ALSO NOT AN OPTION!

I mean, seriously, this politician must think we are as stupid as all the people who voted him in to office.

You and your colleagues had total control of the country for 2 years and you ran it off a cliff. Now that you had to compromise it is all the other party’s fault when you could not continue wasting taxpayer dollars. It is very simple, do not spend money you do not have.

Nonsense. Republicans were hell-bent on letting the US debt default.
