Rep. Swalwell Takes Shot at Soft on Violent Crime Prosecutors

by CC News

Congressman Eric Swalwell (D-Livermore) took to social media Thursday calling out soft on violent crime prosecutors.

His Tweet was in a response to a 2-year-old being lifted out of a carjacked vehicle and abandoned on the street and left alone.  ABC7 released the video as now the mother and child have been reunited.

“My wife and I play these scenarios over in our head all the time. We’ve practiced going out through the back seat to get our kids out of our car if we are carjacked. This is not normal. Soft on violent-crime prosecutors are letting too many dangerous people threaten our kids.”

Swalwell did not highlight how many times he and his wife have practiced being victims of carjackings but he did call out soft-on-crime prosecutors for letting dangerous people out on the streets.

However, Swalwell has done little to address the problems of soft-on crime in California or nationally.

In August, a group launched an effort to recall Alameda County District Attorney Pamela Price, which is where Swalwell lives.

The group who launched the recall effort is called Save Alameda For Everyone or SAFE. They say they are a broad coalition of Alameda County residents, business owners, victims, victims’ families, and concerned citizens of our community have come together to keep our community SAFE (Save Alameda For Everyone). We are unified in our belief that recalling Alameda County District Attorney Pamela Price is not only necessary, but critical to keeping our community safe and restoring public safety in our neighborhoods.

Back in 2020, Swalwell was a supporter of the police reforms calling for more de-escalation training and implicit bias training while calling for every cop to have body cameras–but did up stop short of calling for defund the police. He also sought to have independent groups to investigate officer involved shootings and police officers.

Along with Swalwell’s apparent 180 on crime, Governor Gavin Newsom has been doing the same with theft and retail crimes when he Calls for Legislation Cracking Down on Property Crime. Several lawmakers came together this week to introduce bipartisan legislation to address the issues in Proposition 47.

Mr. Swalwell neglects to mention that virtually all of the “soft on crime” DAs he denigrates are from HIS political party – as are “his” governor, “his” state attorney general and “his” state legislative supermajority. What a bag of hot air.

You can support police reform and training and NOT support defunding police and NOT support shitty DAs. Imagine that. Reform and training doesn’t = defund. You can also be a conservative democrat and a liberal republican. Remember yall? Remember those days? You also don’t have to agree with every politician in your registered political party. WOW!! Imagine that!
