An operation this week by the California Department of Cannabis Control resulted in $15.3 million in illegal cannabis being seized.

The locations were not provided, however there were 20 search warrants served on June 20 in the City of Antioch, City of Brentwood, City of Pittsburg and the Town of Discovery Bay.  In total, the agency reported the following was seized:

  • 742 pounds of cannabis flower estimated valued of $1,244,762
  • 17,121 cannabis plants estimated valued of $14,124,825
  • 7 firearms (including 1 assault rifle)
  • $24,197 in cash

Several of the locations were red-tagged for safety and code violations.

Participating agencies include: Department of Fish & Wildlife, the Department of Tax and Fee Administration, the California National Guard, and local law enforcement with the Antioch Police Department, Brentwood Police Department, Pittsburg Police Department and the Contra Costa County Sheriffs Office.

Brenwood’s Cannabis Ordinance:

Last July, the City of Brentwood agreed to additional penalties for illegal cultivation of marijuana within the city of Brentwood. The penalty is now $100 per plant over the legal limit. At the time, Code Enforcement Supervisor Roberta Portillo-Bienemann explained to the council how the City of Brentwood has seen an increase in illegal marijuana grows inside single-family homes. Staff was seeking additional penalties to clarify they were seeking penalties on a per plant basis as a deterrent for illegal marijuana grows inside single-family homes.

According to staff at the meeting, if someone is unable to pay the fine, it would go to collection and possibly a lien against the property—ultimately it falls on the property owner and any potential buyer of a property would be aware of the violations against the property. Citations are $100 for the first violation, $200 for the second and $500 for the third and subsequent violation.

From arguments listed in favor of 2016 Proposition 64 legalizing pot.
The proposition would generate tax revenue and decrease law enforcement costs.
The proposition would decrease black market and drug cartel activity.
How is Proposition 64 working out?
.
CA managed to make illegal growing and selling of pot even more profitable for than it was before Prop 64 passed.
Law enforcement costs are greater now than before Prop 64 passed.
