Attempt to Oust Antioch School District Superintendent Fails

On Wednesday, the Antioch Unified School District Board of Trustees opted not to terminate its contract with Superintendent Stephanie Anello.

The 2-3 vote came in closed session and was reported out during the school board meeting – however, how the Board of Trustees voted was not provided to the public. Can simply be assumed that Trustees Gary Hack, Dr. Clyde Lewis and Mary Rocha voted against termination while Antonio Hernandez and Dr. Jag Lathan supported the move.

No other information was provided and the meeting continued. The vote occurred as Superintendent Anello is out on medical leave.

For Hernandez, this was the third time he attempted to put the termination of the Superintendent up for a vote citing his concerns with the District handling of complains of bullying and the fallout from a prank where a desk was placed on a roof—with two special meetings called unilaterally without verifying availability of his Board of Trustees. Two meetings were unable to be held due to a lack of quorum.

On April 24, the Antioch Unified School District announced in a press release that two separate investigations have been initiated.  The first investigation is in response to concerns over a board member and the overall handling of the internal investigations. The second investigation seeks to address concerns over two complaints filed against an employee in the District. The District also announced Superintendent Anello had voluntarily removed herself from District involvement in the investigative process.

It was also stated upon completion, the Board will receive the results of the investigations.

Our tax dollars hard at work as Antioch schools remain at the bottom in ALL of California. Purely pathetic.
