Agreed. 2 years ago after George Floyd all over the US people called for the defunding of police and sheriff departments. Fast forward to 6 months ago and people are protesting that there aren’t enough police? Make up your mind! The lack of police is directly from those protests AND many who have always wanted to become police officers have changed their minds because you can be fired, jailed and/or charged with murder if you don’t make sure the fake gun in the perps hand is real, if you don’t make sure there are bullets in the gun before you protect yourself you can lose your job. If you don’t give every criminal a psychological test for mental health before you try to protect the people that person is harassing the community calls for your firing. It’s not the same job these people signed up for. You are held to impossible unsafe standards. I understand there has to be change but there also has to be some common sense and someone needs to have the first responders backs. As seen with the marine who thought he was protecting a car load of transit riders when a man with mental health issues started to threaten people saying he wasn’t afraid to die. He didn’t try to kill him but do you think he had the time to conduct a mental health test before he tried to change the direction this man was going in? I know what people are going to say about my post BUT we need to use SOME COMMON SENSE. There are shitty people everywhere including in the people we trust to keep us safe BUT this doesn’t mean we take away their authority and make them fear for their job if they don’t fully assess a criminals mental health status or make sure their weapon isn’t fake before they try to deescalate a situation!
