Just after 7:00 am Wednesday, the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District responded to a report of a head-on-vehicle crash that left one person dead and another in critical condition.
The crash occurred in the Town of Discovery Bay just east of Discovery Bay Blvd on Highway 4 where crews located two vehicles off the roadway. One person was trapped.
Upon investigation, they located a deceased victim, a person in critical condition and another with moderate injuries. A medical helicopter was requested and was to land directly at the crash scene on Highway 4.
By 7:43 am, REACH landed at the crash scene for patient transport.
CHP was requested for traffic control.
No other information was readily available.
CHP UPDATE: Two vehicle fatal crash on SR-4 near Discovery Bay
This morning (8/16/23) at approximately 7:10am, CHP Contra Costa responded to a two vehicle crash on SR-4 near Discovery Bay Boulevard. Our preliminary investigation indicates an Acura, with two occupants, was traveling westbound on SR-4 and a Ford F-350, with two occupants, was traveling eastbound on SR-4. The Acura crossed into the eastbound lane and collided head on into the Ford.
The driver of the Acura sustained major injuries and was transported to the hospital. The passenger of the Acura sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Ford was not injured. The passenger of the Ford was transported to the hospital for suspected minor injuries.
