California Coastal Cleanup Set for Sept. 23

The California Coastal Cleanup Day, the state’s largest annual volunteer event, is set for September 23 from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm in multiple locations across the state.

It’s a chance for everyone in our state, no matter where they live, to help clean up trash from our environment before the rains come and wash it out to the coast and ocean. Participating is easy.

In Contra Costa County, there are a number of locations to volunteer which include the City of Antioch, City of Pittsburg, City of Pleasant Hill, Crockett, to locations from the East Bay Regional Park District.

According to 2021 data, Contra Costa County had 1,284 volunteers and collected 11,554 pounds of trash with 2,222 recyclables and 13,776 pounds of debris.

Antioch Coastal Cleanup

Do you wish to see less litter around our marine? On Saturday, September 23rd join California’s more than 35,000 volunteers in cleaning up local areas and waterways for Coastal Cleanup Day. Register now and be part of our group of volunteers at the Antioch Water Park and the Antioch Marina.

East Bay Regional Park District

Join us for California’s largest annual Volunteer event! Help remove trash and plastic pollution at beaches and waterways throughout the Park District.
Lend a hand on September 23, 2023, and earn a Coastal Cleanup patch or sticker. Special prizes for the most unusual trash collected!

Pittsburg Marina Cleanup

Join the Pittsburg Marina as they host a Marina Clean up day in participation of Coastal Cleanup Day, California’s largest annual volunteer event! It’s a chance for everyone in our state, no matter where they live, to help clean up trash from our environment before the rains come and wash it out to the coast and ocean.

Kirker Creek in Pittsburg

At our site, activities include walking or climbing up steep creek banks and working along roadsides to remove trash and debris. We will pick up trash on our stretch of Kirker Creek and tally what we collect to add up our impact in our watershed, which empties out to Suisun Bay before entering the Pacific Ocean!

Participants will be notified in the event of cancellation due to extreme weather conditions. Restrooms are not available.

Directions: Follow the above address. When you turn onto Nortonville Rd from Kirker Pass, keep an eye for our meeting spot on the left side of the road where parking is available (the address takes you farther down the road than necessary but the GPS points are exact).

What to Bring: Water bottle, sturdy shoes, comfy long work pants, sun protection (i.e. hat, sunscreen), face covering, work gloves and a trash collection bucket if you have them. Wear a blue shirt in celebration of Coastal Cleanup Day if you’d like!

Pleasant Hill

Pleasant Hill Community Day of Service

On Community Service Day, residents of Pleasant Hill come out to work on projects at our schools, parks, and other locations. We will meet at Pleasant Hill Park from 7:30 a.m. – 9:00 a.m.for a breakfast provided by our friends at the Lions Club. Then everyone will head out to their project locations.
