New COVID-19 Vaccine Coming Soon to Contra Costa County

Press Release

Contra Costa County

Contra Costa Health (CCH) recommends that everyone 6 months and older get the new COVID-19 vaccine as soon as available through their healthcare providers.

Healthcare providers, including CCH, and commercial pharmacies will likely begin receiving the new vaccine by next week.

The vaccine, approved this month by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention, protects against strains of COVID-19 that are currently circulating.

“This COVID-19 vaccine is updated to be effective against variants of the virus that our residents are most likely to encounter this winter, the same way that flu vaccine is updated annually,” said Dr. Ori Tzvieli, Contra Costa County health officer. “The older COVID vaccines do not protect against current strains. We really recommend the new vaccine for everyone, but particularly for those who are older or medically vulnerable.”

Everyone 6 months and older is eligible to get a dose of the new vaccine, regardless of past vaccination status, unless they’ve already received a dose of COVID-19 vaccine within the past two months.

Contra Costa County will not host dedicated vaccination clinics, as it did during the federally declared emergency response to the COVID-19 pandemic, which ended earlier this year.

Instead, people who have health insurance should contact their healthcare providers for instructions about how to get vaccinated.

CCH will provide vaccine primarily to Contra Costa Health Plan members, Medi-Cal and Medicare recipients that it serves, and people who do not have health insurance.

The number of daily hospitalizations due to COVID-19 has slowly grown over the course of the summer across the Bay Area and California.

In Contra Costa County, for example, the 7-day average number of new, COVID-related hospital admissions has grown from 5.9 on June 14 to 12.1 on Sept. 9. Services at county hospitals are not currently impacted by COVID-19.

In addition, to help better protect people vulnerable to serious complications from COVID-19 infection, local health departments across the Bay Area today enacted health orders requiring workers at certain medical facilities to wear well-fitting face masks while on the job, from Nov. 1 to April 30 annually.

In Contra Costa, the order applies to workers at acute-care hospitals, skilled nursing facilities and nursing homes, and high-risk outpatient settings such as dialysis and infusion centers. The order does not apply to patients or visitors.

The scientific consensus today is that Covis vaccine has more risks than benefits for children and adults up to a certain age. It can be only beneficial for high risk people.

No data to substantiate the facts makes this a baseless and senseless statement.

From what I see, your statement is false. Like statements without the facts? 🙂

The data is freely available. If you choose not to look for it, then you will stay uneducated. Why for example do you think many European countries stopped the vaccine campaigns for young people?

Here, I looked it up! From the EU’s own website: https://commission.europa.eu/strategy-and-policy/coronavirus-response/safe-covid-19-vaccines-europeans/questions-and-answers-covid-19-vaccination-eu_en#covid-19-vaccination-in-the-eu

As President von der Leyen stressed, the decision to vaccinate children is not a political decision, but an evidence-based scientific decision.

This is why it is so important to closely follow the science, and in particular the views of specialists such as EMA on safety and ECDC on the epidemiological aspects.

EMA has given its green light for the use of the BioNtech Pfizer vaccine for children over the age of 5 years. According to the agency, the use of the vaccine for children is effective and safe. Furthermore, scientific evidence demonstrates that children may also get infected and transmit the virus, and vaccination is a good way to protect children.

This is not data, this is just an opinion of bureaucrats. You find the same garbage on CDC and FDA web sites. They are all puppets of the pharma industry. There is for example a physician Dr. John Campbell who reviews scientific papers and shows real data in youtube videos. He is very soft spoken because he does not want his videos to be censored. There are more independent doctors who have a lot to say on Covid and vaccines. Just need to look.

Libs cant wait September 20, 2023 - 12:12 pm

Hurry and line up all you liberal Biden supporters.

Your statement shows all exactly who and what you are – a sheep, just following. The new vaccine has NOTHING to do with the politics you suggest. Get vaccinated -or- that’s fine, don’t believe in vaccines and get admitted to a hospital near you (tell me where, and I’ll come visit you).

Thanks Bob s September 21, 2023 - 7:28 am

Thanks for the laugh. The vax is useless and you cowards have bought in completely. They do more harm than good. It is ALL about politics and money. But you keep on doing what the government tells you. They know best. Sheep to slaughter.

The comments from “TSG” and “LIBS” prove that intelligence is not universal.

No, your comment proves your point. Don’t post if you dunno.

I make my judgments based on information from recognized public health experts/agencies and my own doctor (with whom I discussed the new vaccine just two weeks ago). You speak of vague “pharma industry” conspiracy and cite Youtube vidoes as your source of medical knowledge. I think reasonable people can figure out who is the “dunno” party.

Google “development cycle of a vaccine” and tell me results say it’s not minimum 3-10 years development for a safe product. I can wait another 3-7 years to see what the long-term effects of these things are if any. I mean I’ve made it this far.

MODERATE September 23, 2023 - 6:41 am

That is partially true for “stable” diseases that don’t mutate such as polio or tetanus. It is utterly NOT true for viruses that DO mutate and produce new strains in less than one year. Why do you think the seasonal flu vaccine is reformulated every year? Just because you Google something doesn’t mean that the information you get (or misinterpret) is valid.

What am I missing? September 21, 2023 - 7:48 pm

So…
If you get the jab you are protected from a cold/flu
supposedly..
You can still spread it
You can continue to get it
Masks are ineffective according to multiple sources
Am I wrong?

Grow Up! September 22, 2023 - 7:35 am

Funny how people’s desire not to follow Covid protocol is always combined with insults and political party rhetoric. It’s your life, your choice not to follow protocol. It’s also your death should it lead to that. Your decision to choose not to have the vaccination doesn’t make you more brave or informed than the people who choose differently from you. Grow up and stop with the condescending name calling.
