Antioch, CA — Kenny Shrader of Pacheco won the 20 lap IMCA Sport Modified Main Event Saturday night at Antioch Speedway. This was his fourth win of the season, and he won the championship over Jason Ryan Jr of Oakley by just two points.

The championship night format put incoming point leader Shrader on the pole and he bolted into the immediate lead ahead of Jason Ryan Jr and Mark Garner of Antioch  The race ran 13 laps before a yellow flag for Jace Wright of Gazelle slowed the action. Shrader continued to lead the restart ahead of Ryan and Tommy Fraser of Antioch. After another yellow flag a lap later, Shrader resumed command. Ryan gave it everything he had, but Shrader prevailed for the  championship clinching victory. Fraser settled for third ahead of Garner and Dylan Connelly of Antioch..

Anthony Slaney of Martinez won the 20 lap Xtreme Late Model Main Event. He becomes the fourth different winner in as many visits. Slaney is the 2020 Petaluma Speedway IMCA Modified champion.

Buddy Kniss of Oakley took the early lead ahead of Ray Trimble of Auburn. They ran that way during the first 10 laps of the race. A smoking Matt Davis of Marysville spun from third in Turn 2 after contact for a Lap 10 yellow flag. Kniss continued to lead the restart with Slaney making a bold move into second. A bit of contact racing in Turn 4 on the 12th lap gained Slaney the lead from Kniss, and contact sent Kniss spinning in Turn 4 for a yellow on Lap 17. Micheli was penalized to the rear of his part in the incident. Slaney led the restart and brought it home to victory ahead of Rod Oliver of Yuba City, Trimble, Justin Yeager of South San Francisco and Micheli.

Bob Newberry of Brentwood won the 25 lap Wingless Spec Sprint Main Event. Newberry had a win get away from him with two laps to go at the previous race, and this was his first win of the season. It was also his 22nd career win in this division at Antioch Speedway.

Newberry had a front row start for the feature and bolted into the early lead ahead of Ethon Lanfri and point leader Jarrett Soares of Gilroy. They ran in that order throughout the first half of the race. Mark Hanson of Petaluma was fourth and made a low pass in Turn 2 on Lap 20 to grab third. Newberry kept catching slower traffic but made quick moves to keep Lanfri at bay as he brought it home to a satisfying win. Hanson ended up third ahead of Shawn Arriaga of Antioch and Jacob Tuttle of Oakley.

David Michael Rosa of Antioch won the 20 lap Delta Dwarf Car Main Event. This was his second win of the season. 2020 champion Travis Day of Concord took the early lead ahead of Pete Piantanida of Discovery Bay. Rosa led the restart with Piantanida moving into second. Piantanida kept it close, but David Michael Rosa brought it home to the well-earned victory. Day settled for third ahead of David Rosa of Antioch and Larry Clover of Prunedale.

Point leader Tom Davis of Los Molinos won his eighth 20 lap Print Club Mini Stock Main Event. Mike Cover of Santa Rosa took the early lead over Tony Quinonez of Corning and Davis. An inside move on the back stretch gave Davis the lead on Lap 3 with Quinonez and Cover coming together in Turn 4. Cover spun, moving reigning champion Tom Brown of Santa Rosa into third. The race had no yellow flag slow downs, and Davis held command by nearly a straightaway by the time the race concluded. Quinonez was second with Brown the final lead lap finisher in third. Laina Bales of Antioch and Patrick Kelley of Clovis rounded out the Top 5.

Mike Learn of Petaluma won the 20 lap Super Stock Main Event. Learn continued to lead the way on the restart and scored the win ahead of Freethy Dustin Smith of Santa Rosa, Ridgeway and Miramontez.

Foulger, DeCarlo, Baca Win Hall Of Fame Night Races At Antioch Speedway

By Candice Martin

Antioch, CA…September 15…Troy Foulger of Oakley won the 25 lap IMCA Modified Main Event Friday night at Antioch Speedway. The win clinched Foulger his sixth IMCA Modified championship in the Bowers Motorsports owned entry. This was also his fifth win of the season.

The championship night format started the drivers based on their points with the leader on the pole. This meant that Foulger had the pole, but State champion Andrew Pearce of Oakley bolted into the lead from the outside position ahead of Foulger and Anthony Slaney of Martinez. Foulger pressured Pearce pretty hard during the first half of the race with Slaney a solid third until he headed pitside on the 14th lap. Foulger made a move around Pearce on the backstretch on Lap 17 to briefly gain the lead, but Pearce beat him back to the line to lead that lap.

However, Foulger made a high pass in Turn 2 of the 18th lap to take command. When Buddy Kniss of Oakley fell out of third on lap 20, that briefly gave the position to Terry DeCarlo Sr of Martinez. However, Tim Balding of Salinas made a move in Turn 4 to grab third. Foulger built a half-straightaway advantage over Pearce by the time the checkered flag waved. Balding ended up third ahead of DeCarlo and Ryan DeForest of Livermore.

Nick DeCarlo of Martinez won the 25 lap IMCA Stock Car Main Event. This was the third win of the season for DeCarlo, and it came on a night in which his father was inducted into the Antioch Speedway Hall of Fame. DeCarlo gained the lead when newly crowned champion Troy Foulger of Oakley had mechanical issues and fell out of the action.

Being a championship night format meant that point leader Foulger took the early lead ahead of Jason Robles of Rio Vista. Nick DeCarlo made an inside pass in Turn 2 of the second lap to claim third and moved past Robles for second on the seventh lap. Foulger seemed in control of things until he suffered a mechanical failure and spun in Turn 2 for a Lap 12 yellow flag.

DeCarlo gained the lead on the restart ahead of Mitch Enos of Manteca. Travis Dutra of Concord ran in the third position, but Enos had his own issues on the 17th lap for a yellow flag. DeCarlo continued to lead Dutra and Robles on the restart. DeCarlo drove a flawless race down the stretch and achieved victory. Dutra settled for second ahead of Robles, Mitch Machado of Rohnert Park and Dave Hill of South San Francisco.

Ken Johns of Antioch won the 25 lap Pacific Coast General Engineering Hobby Stock Bobby Main Event. He took the lead from point leader Grayson Baca of Brentwood late to collect the win and maintain his championship hopes.

Baca started on the front row and charged into the lead at the green flag, followed by Jared Baugh of Pittsburgh and Danny Wagner of Bay Point. On the seventh lap, James Thomson of Antioch got past Baugh for the second position and he held it until contact sent him spinning in Turn 4 on the 16th lap. At that point, Johns moved into the runner-up position and took up pursuit of Baca. Johns made a move in Turn 4 to take the lead from Baca with Wagner and Baugh also getting by. John’s went on to victory ahead of Wagner, Baugh, Baca and Aidan Ponciano of Oakley

The track had ceremonies during intermission to honor several past greats. Keith Brown Sr, Dave Byrd, Bob Meeker, Lori Brown, Kimberly Myers, Sharon Smith, Rick Panfili, Terry DeCarlo Sr and Harry Osborne were all inducted into the Antioch Speedway Hall of Fame. There was a bigger group of inductees for the first night as there were more racing divisions on Saturday.
