On Thursday, the Oakley Police Department responded to a report of a stabbing which left one person in critical condition and airlifted to an area hospital.

According to preliminary information, police responded around 6:45 am to a stabbing to the chest on Omega Lane off of Neroly Road. At least four adults were in the home at the time of the incident. A male was detained after it was reported he and his son struggled over a shotgun inside the home in which the struggle resulted into a single shot being discharged–no one was hit by the gunshot. At that point, the dad pulled out a pocketknife and stabbed the son in the chest in possible self-defense of he and his wife.

The father was taken into custody as a precaution, but has since been released by the Oakley Police Department.

By 7:30 am, the stabbing victim (the son) was airlifted to an area hospital and the condition is unknown at this time.  Contra Costa County Fire Protection District and AMR also responded to the scene. It was also stated the son had been kicked out of the home multiple times due to mental health issues.

Oakley Police confirmed they have had multiple contacts at this home over the past year but did not provide any other information.

4:00 PM UPDATE

On May 2, 2024 at 6:50AM Oakley police officers were dispatched to a home on Omega Lane for the report of an adult son shooting a gun at his father and the father stabbing the son.

Upon arrival, our officers determined Jason Daniel (38, Oakley) had been armed with the shotgun. Daniel had threatened his parents with the shotgun, and it was discharged into the ceiling during a struggle between the father and son.

As the struggle continued with both parents, Daniel shot at his father and missed. During the struggle, Daniel’s father stabbed Daniel several times to stop or subdue him and eventually the father was able to take control over Daniel. Daniel’s mother was then able to disarm their son.

Daniel was airlifted to a local hospital to be treated for injuries. Oakley police detectives are actively working the case and will work towards seeking formal charges against Daniel.

There are no outstanding suspects in this case and at this point there is no threat to the public.
