Concord Police Say Charges Filed in Sam’s Jewelers Robbery

On May 18th, 2023 the Concord Police Department received a 9-1-1 call of a robbery in progress at the Sam’s Jewelers at the Sun Valley Mall. Employees reported a male was inside the location armed with a hammer, confronted staff, and began smashing the glass, taking approximately $25,000 worth of jewelry.

The Suspect immediately fled in a vehicle before patrol Officer’s arrival. The case was assigned to the Concord Police Department’s Financial Crimes Unit and after months of follow-up investigation, the Suspect was identified as 35-year-old Pittsburg resident Bryant Donquile Gray.

The case was forwarded to the Contra Costa District Attorney’s Office and the following felony charges were filed against Gray:

  • PC211 – Second Degree Robbery
  • PC487(a) – Grand Theft of Personal Property
  • PC459 – Second Degree Burglary

Additionally, special allegations regarding Gray’s violent criminal history were presented at filing.

Gray is currently in custody in San Francisco for an unrelated attempted homicide.

June 27 – Walnut Creek Duo Arrested in San Francisco Robbery and Shooting

Members of the San Francisco Police Department Night Investigations Unit (NIU) and the Major Crimes Robbery Detail obtained search warrants for 34-year-old Joseph Tagoilelagi and 35-year-old Bryant Gray, who were identified as the suspects wanted in connection with an armed robbery that occurred in San Francisco’s Taraval District and a shooting that occurred in San Francisco’s Tenderloin District, both in the Month of May.

On May 11, 2023, SFPD officers from Taraval Station responded to the 2300 block of 20th Avenue to investigate a reported robbery. Officers met with two victims who stated that two unknown suspects had brandished firearms at them, stole a necklace, and then fled from the scene in a getaway vehicle.

In a separate incident, on May 22, 2023, SFPD officers from Tenderloin Station responded to the 300 block of Golden Gate Avenue to investigate a report of a shooting. Officers located two victims suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. The victims were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Investigators developed information that this incident was the result of an attempted robbery.

Through the course of their investigation, investigators identified Tagoilelagi and Gray as the suspects in both of the above-listed incidents. Investigators developed probable cause to obtain search and arrest warrants for Tagoilelagi and Gray as well as their residences and associated vehicles.

On June 15, 2023, investigators from NIU, the Robbery Detail, and officers from the SFPD Tactical Unit, located Tagoilelagi and Gray on the 1300 block of Creekside Drive in Walnut Creek, California. Officers from the Tactical Unit placed them into custody without incident. The officers on scene determined that Tagoilelagi and Gray were in possession of a stolen vehicle. During a subsequent search, investigators located and seized two firearms from inside the vehicle.

Shortly after the arrest, investigators, and officers from the SFPD Tactical Unit served a search warrant on the 5100 block of Monitor Pass Way in Antioch California. Investigators located and seized evidence related to the investigation.
