Freedom High Principal Addresses Online Rumors

The following message was sent out by Freedom High School Principal Dr. Steve Amaro regarding rumors online regarding a shooting on campus after this weekends fight and shooting.  Heritage High School also released a statement.

The statements are in response to a weekend shooting in the City of Oakley that left a 16-year-old dead and 3-others wounded. Police are still investigating and working to identify the shooter.

Here is the message:

Hello Falcon Families. I know there has been a lot of concern in our community regarding the events that occurred on Shannon Way with the fight and shooting over the weekend.

Today, we had additional officers on campus and in the vicinity for safety and our counseling team created a temporary crisis room for those students that needed additional support.

In addition, there was an unsubstantiated rumor that began to circulate this morning regarding a potential shooting today on campus. Working the Oakley Police Department, we could not find any validity to the claim. Safety will always be the highest priority at Freedom and we will continue to investigate any and all claims, substantiated or not, dealing with the safety of our students.

I know much of this news can be unsettling to you and our students and we encourage you to speak with your students about these issues; whenever students know that they can talk about what concerns them and that they will be cared for, they are more likely to feel safe in any setting.

Tonight, we will hold a community meeting in the PAT at 6:00pm for all who want to attend. Oakley Police Chief Beard will also be in attendance so that we can all share the facts together.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact any of our administrative team as we are here to help our students and I look forward to seeing you tonight.

Heritage HS Principal Says Issues Statement on Weekend Shooting

Good Morning Heritage Community,

It was very disheartening to hear the news from Oakley Police that a 16 year old juvenile was shot and killed and three others suffering injuries from gunshot wounds on Saturday evening.  We know that a traumatic event like this can send shockwaves throughout a community. To help during  this trying time, we have set up a place for students and staff (see below) who need  support to come and talk with counseling staff. The Heritage High Administration team is sending thoughts and prayers to the victims and their families.
