Brentwood Police

On Sunday, the Brentwood Police Department released the following statement regarding safety concerns of Bristow Middle School.

Back on November 7, the Brentwood Police Department responded to Bristow Middle School on a possible threat of a firearm on campus after text messages among a group of students surface. However, police deemed it no credible threat. This prompted another announcement to parents November 8–after more rumors about potential school violence . Finally, on November 9, that is when both the Brentwood Union School District and Brentwood Police Department issued formal statements with more information–still, many parents thought not enough information was released and not enough being done to ensure school safety.

Over the weekend, however, more rumors continue to pop up including additional threats, however, Brentwood Police say their investigation has resulted in no new threats identified. In response, Brentwood Police say they will have additional officers on campus as a precaution.

Here is the Sunday statement:

The Brentwood Police Department has been fielding concerns regarding ongoing threats to the safety of Bristow Middle School students. These threats have understandably left parents feeling hesitant about sending their children to school. We want to reassure parents that our ongoing investigation has not unearthed any new threats. In an effort to bolster student safety and alleviate parental concerns, the police department will deploy additional officers at the school next week to continue to keep the school safe.

We aim to reassure parents that both the police department and the school district are actively conducting comprehensive investigations into these incidents. The student responsible for the threats on Thursday has been arrested and booked at Juvenile Hall. Those involved in sending threatening texts are currently undergoing administrative actions by the school district that will likely lead to severe consequences, including expulsion. Concurrently, the police department continues its investigation into the criminal aspects of Tuesday’s incident. Upon the investigation’s closure, the District Attorney’s office will review the case.

Reiterating our commitment to the safety of Bristow Middle School students, we want to reassure parents that no new threats have been discovered. To further ensure a secure environment, additional officers will be present on site next week.

Nov 9: Gun Threat Prompts Bristow Middle School Lockdown in Brentwood

the Brentwood Union School District issued an update from another lock-down at Bristow Middle School for safety reasons.

According to Bristow Principal Anna Perales, they received a report of a threat of a gun on campus. This prompted the school resource officer to request a lock-down. This was determined to be not credible.

However, according to two sources, dozens of kids ran from the campus into a nearby neighborhood after hearing the rumor of a firearm on campus. It also prompted more than 50 parents to head to the school to attempt to pull students from the campus.

Superintendent Dana Eaton stated the “tip” came in when law enforcement agencies were already on campus and the student in question had already gone home for the day with a parent.  Eaton said the investigation is ongoing regarding a threat on campus from a text chain but offered no other details in an effort not to compromise the investigation by the Brentwood Police Department.

According to sources, the original threat was directed at several teachers at the school. Eaton would not confirm that occurred, but did say multiple people were threatened in the message thread. — full story
