The Tracy Police Department is investigating an officer involved shooting after a burglary in progress at the Best Buy Warehouse.

According to police, on Sunday, November 19, 2023, around 3:30 am the Tracy Police Department responded to the Best Buy Warehouse in the 6000 block of Hopkins Rd. for a report of a burglary in progress. Multiple suspects were reportedly breaking into trailers parked at the warehouse.

Upon arrival of Tracy PD officers, they located at least two suspects on the property who led them on a short foot chase. Shortly after confronting the suspects, an officer involved shooting occurred. One of the suspects was struck by several rounds and was immediately given medical care by the officers. This injured suspect was transported to a local hospital by ambulance where he is in critical, but stable condition. No officers were injured during the incident.

Two other suspects were detained without injury and a fourth escaped the area on foot. We are actively trying to identify the last suspect, but do not believe there is any risk to the public at this time. The Tracy PD General Investigations Unit is handling this aspect of the investigation.

Representatives from the San Joaquin County District Attorney’s Office and the California Department of Justice are present and will be running a parallel investigation, with our full cooperation, into this incident. This is an ongoing and active investigation, and more details will be released as we learn them.

If anyone has any information about this investigation, you’re encouraged to contact Detective Lissette Ortiz at (209) 831-6569 or [email protected].

Note, police did not release any identifying information on the suspects nor why a police officer fired the weapon.

Way to deflect. Decent people wouldn’t be out stealing in the wee hours of the morning or any other time. This perpetrator wouldn’t have been shot either if he’d stayed home or gone to work for what he wanted. That’s some nerve trying to make police responsible for doing their job. Thankfully the officers weren’t harmed.
