Recall District Attorney Diana Becton Group Launched

by CC News
Becton

A Facebook group called “Recall District Attorney Diana Becton” has been launched and are seeking 10,000 followers before efforts move forward with a recall.

The unidentified group behind it, calls themselves “twenty professionals who reside in Contra Costa County” and say they are fully committed to the recall effort. They will need 75,000 signatures to get it on the ballot.

According to multiple sources, they confirmed the group is made up of family members of murder victims who believe their cases will not go forward and justice is not being served. The names will become public when the recall moves forward, however, at the moment, the group fears retaliation.

In a message posted on November 29:

Hello everyone! Welcome to our page! We established this page with the intention of assessing the demand for a recall. We are a collective of twenty professionals who reside in Contra Costa County and are FULLY committed to this recall effort. However, before proceeding, it is crucial for us to gauge the level of support we have from the community. Our objective for this platform is to garner a minimum of 10,000 likes on our page. Once we achieve this milestone, we will initiate the necessary paperwork to commence the recall process, develop and launch a website where the community can access additional information and resources such as donation processes and registering as signature gatherers. To successfully execute this recall, we would require more than 75,000 signatures. At present, what we urgently require is confirmation of your support before we proceed any further. Please share our page to your friends and family for their support. If you have any questions, please feel free to send a direct message, comment below or email us @: [email protected]. We will do our best to answer things as quickly and as transparently as possible. Thank you all again for your support!!

The group has shared several local news headlines, including from this website – such as the Contra Costa District Attorney’s Secret Plan Not to Prosecute.

It highlights how four prosecutors sue the Contra Costa DA for systemic sexism. Dropping cases for “moral turpitude”.  Meanwhile, they also point out Becton’s stance on considering looters “needs” before charging them.

Other articles include the resignations within the officer after the DA’s handling of murder cases, lack of closure for the family in the Alexis Gabe case—including not charging the mother– lack of accountability in regards to Antioch Mayor Lamar Thorpe DUI, along with murder getting just 9-years for premeditated murder in the Allie Sweitzer murder case noting Becton refuses to challenge SB 1391.

Finally, the group shares how charges against Becton’s son were dismissed siting: BATTERY WITH SERIOUS BODILY INJURY, CHILD ABDUCTION, CHILD DETENTION WITH RIGHT TO CUSTODY, KIDNAPPING (KIDNAPPING BY FORCE), SECOND DEGREE BURGLARY, CRUELTY TO CHILD BY ENDANGERING HEALTH, BATTERY ON SPOUSE OR CO-HABITANT, RESIST/DELAY/OBSTRUCT PEACE OFFICER, VIOLATION OF COURT ORDER.. ALL DROPPED. Ahkai Bernstine, Diana Becton’s son… currently released on probation.

In September of 2017, Becton was appointed to the District Attorney position by the Board of Supervisors after the resignation of former DA Mark Peterson—even after it was made public Becton was a plagiarist.

After winning election in 2018, citing reorganization, she demoted her opponent Paul Graves, from a senior prosecutor to a community prosecutor while banishing him to Richmond to work with Richmond Police. Mary Knox, who would run against her in 2022, was also demoted — Knox was also part of a $2.2 million settlement against Becton for discrimination where Knox and other members of the DA’s office won their case.

Becton also made national news by hosting a wedding party at her home at a time when the state and country was on lockdown. In March of 2018, a leaked memo from Becton directed employees not to respond to the media—many within the office shared the public deserved more access, not less.

Earlier this year, Becton’s office fumbled a redacted release of Antioch Police office text messages which include phone numbers of officers and names–it also was only a partial release, not the full 200+ pages that would provide context.

In Antioch, Becton also dismissed misdemeanor charges filed against Antioch Councilwoman Tamisha Torres-Walker stemming from a shooting outside her home and her interference with Antioch Police – the city of Antioch refuses to release its body camera footage and requests for the footage have been declined a half-dozen times. Becton also reduced Torres-Walkers son’s felony case to a misdemeanor the same day as a $500 donation from Torres-Walker was made to Bectons campaign fund.

Its also believed Becton has played favorites with Antioch Mayor Lamar Thorpe with his DUI case along with text messages turned in by Antioch Police which Becton did not take action on–these text messages between Thorpe, city clerk Ellie Householder and others have never been released by to the public.

Although a group is attempting to recall Becton, Congressman John Garamendi honored Becton as one of his 53 Women at Annual Women of the Year.

As of Friday morning, the Facebook group stands at 545 “likes”.

Long overdue! A Recall is the Right of the public to put an elected official on formal notice that the official needs to be taken out of Office. Diane Becton’s turn is now!
She has since taking Office as the D.A. failed the survivors, family, friends, and the public overall of Victims. If the Recall group will post who and how to contact them I can provide them with perfect factual information that alone would justify her being recalled. Please do so.

Let’s put a stop to people like Soros buying county and local elections. Abortion and what is happening in another country is a state and national issue. These local officials need to stay in their lane, do their jobs, and stop campaigning now for a position in higher office. I don’t give a damn about your views on abortion, Israel, or Palestine. Where’s the damn calls for cease fires in our local communities? Do your damn job! Becton is a Chief Public Defender not a Chief Law Enforcement Officer she was elected to be.
