Monica Wilson Declares Herself “Front Runner” in Assembly District 15 Race

by CC News
Monica Wilson

If campaign fundraising and polling data are the two indications to declare a primary winner, then Antioch City Councilwoman Monica Wilson is likely to be in the runoff for the California State Assembly District 15 Race.

That leaves former Contra Costa County Board of Supervisor Karen Mitchoff, Contra Costa County Board of Education Trustee AnaMarie Avila Farais, and businesswoman Sonia Ledo vying for the second runoff spot.

According to campaign filings for money raised:

  • Wilson has raised $255k with $190k coming from unions and political action committees (PAC)
  • Mitchoff has raised $70,114
  • Farias has raised $59,169

The Assembly seat became open when Assemblymember Tim Grayson decided to run for State Senate where that seat is being vacated by Steve Glazer.  District 15 includes all of the following cities; Antioch, Brentwood, Clayton, Concord, Martinez, Pittsburg, Pleasant Hill and a portion of Walnut Creek. It also includes the communities of Bay Point, Clyde, Crockett, Pacheco, Port Costa, and Vine Hill.

Polling Data Released by FM3 Research

In a press release issued February 3, Wilson’s campaign declared her the “front runner” after polling by FM3 Research, November 28 – December 3, which shows an open playing field for candidates when first introduced to the race with nearly 50% of voters being undecided. After introducing candidates, however, Wilson says introducing candidates’ biographies, two-thirds finding her favorable and over a quarter of voters saying they found her very favorable.

Wilson’s press release also states she takes a clear lead in the race after biographies of the candidates are shared, she leads the candidates with 25% support from voters, a 14-point gain from the initial vote, a 7-point lead over her opponents and shrinks the undecideds to 19%. — see full polling data report

Its unclear if the polling questions went any further than a biography. However, voters will have the final say on March 5, 2024 as ballots should be arriving any day.

People in Antioch will vote for Wilson to get her out of Antioch. I don’t others in Contra Costa wanting to send anyone from Antioch to Sacramento.

I disagree I would never vote for anyone on our council for any position ever. And anyone who vote for people running from Antioch should really think twice about it.

I agree it is time to get rid of her off Antioch City Council but won’t be voting for her because of Antioch City Council decisions that have made Antioch a dangerous place to live and do business. Homeless everything has been a complete failure.

ME February 5, 2024 - 2:43 pm

She’s done absolutely nothing noteworthy for Antioch, is always confused and needing clarification, she doesn’t think independently or critically and has done nothing for her district except gerrymandering. She’s just taking up space on the city council. Horrible do nothing politician.

Agree with everyone else here — no one currently on the board will be voted in again.

VOTE FOR NEW BLOOD IN ANTIOCH FOR THE ENTIRE CITY COUNCIL!!! !!! !!! !!! !!!

Wilson has been worthless as a member of our Council. Nothing but a yes vote for our feckless mayor. Anyone who would send this looser anywhere except to get her off the Council needs to rethink their values and principles. Wherever she lands in the political arena she’ll be a liability.

Ms. Wilson will fit right in the state legislature…
