Applebees

On Monday, Applebee’s in the City of Antioch has announced it was closed. Those looking for a meal were greeted to a closed sign.

For those looking to eat at Applebee’s, you are being directed to the Pinole (1369 Fitzgerald Drive) or Stockton (2659 W March Lane) locations. Applebee’s has already been removed from the company website and have not yet responded to requests about the closure.

4:00 PM Update

As part of a broader business strategy, we have made the decision to permanently close our Applebee’s of Antioch location effective end of service on Sunday, February 25. We have greatly appreciated the opportunity to serve the community over the years. Staff associates and managers have been given the opportunity to relocate to other restaurants within the region. Our guests can still enjoy Applebee’s at our nearest location, 1369 Fitzgerald Dr., Pinole. We appreciate the hard work, loyalty and dedication of each and every one of our staff and wish them the best in their future endeavors.

Last fall, Applebee’s announced it was closing between 25-35 restaurants that were deemed “underperforming” More than 300 Applebee’s have closed down since 2017, even though they still have over 1,500 locations within the US.

Am I missing something here. How is Antioch closing but they want to keep Stockton and Pinole open? Antioch must be bad.

Walnut Creek also closed

Antioch is just as bad as Oakland!!!

I am not surprised. This location had bad (rude) service and worse food. In fact, last time we were there, we walked out due to the service. Sad, as this used to be a favorite for family dinners out.

Personally, I forgot about Applebees . .but now that I am reminded it closed, its a sad thing. Really is! We should be getting new restaurants since there is so much new building here but instead, another one bites the dust.

“For those looking to eat at Applebee’s, you are being directed to the Pinole (1369 Fitzgerald Drive) or Stockton (2659 W March Lane) locations”. So I take it that the Applebee’s on Ygnacio Valley Rd has closed as well?

That one closed over a year ago and the building has been converted to a bank.

Remember when this location served a child a margarita in a sippy cup on accident?

I like the Applebee’s chain but I have to agree with another poster about chronic bad service at this particular restaurant. I also walked out on them. Poor management here for a long time.

Lol, I do remember that kid that got drunk. Made national news… I believe there was a homicide as well. Sad that so many negative things pushed the customers away causing Applebee’s to close.

Make Applebees great again!-

More and more businesses will shutter in Antioch, just like they are in Oakland.

It’s only the beginning of many closures of great stores and restaurants. Many famous stores and good restaurants are relocating to better zip codes, with much better protection and security. The crime is truly running rapid everywhere. From S F. Oakland, San Jose, and beyond.

MODERATE February 28, 2024 - 4:50 am

It isn’t just about street crime. Some once very successful chains failed because of poor management decisions. Remember Lyons restaurants, Circuit City, Sears, JC Penney, Mervyn’s, ad nauseam? All gone. Macy’s is in trouble because its business model of locating large stores in downtowns and shopping malls no longer works. Online shopping is the major reason along with discount giants like Walmart and Costco.

My folks & I just went there on Sat night….had NO IDEA that 24 hours later they’d be closed. But after the service we received (which included the server we had asking us how to make the cocktail we asked for) I am NOT SURPRISED. We used to go to the Walnut Creek location all the time. Since they closed….we finally tried the Antioch location….and what a disappointment. Not surprised it closed forever. Sad for all the workers.

I went in there about a month ago and had the worst service ever. Everyone around me got served and even people that came in after me yet I was by myself and was told numerous times that they would get to me and never even took a drink order. After 15 minutes I walked out never to come back again. I’m glad to hear this place is in a business because their service sucks! Good riddance. Don’t let the door………

Businesses continue to leave a dying city

Renee February 27, 2024 - 1:44 pm

I believe Pittsburg city council board members should teach our City council here in Antioch how to run a city. They honestly have no clue and as a life-long resident of 60yrs have never seen such irresponsibility and neglect to improve a city that has just as much as potential as Pittsburg, Oakley and Brentwood. But we are a joke and need to get rid of our people running the show and get people who honestly care and can walk the walk not just talk the talk. It’s sickening! Businesses will continue to leave and then what? Now these jokes terse are running for senate lol hell anyone can run now a days I see. How embarrassing.
