The Brentwood Police say an Oakland man was arrested in connection with commercial burglaries, but was also in possession of a grenade launcher.

According to police, during January of 2024, businesses along the Lone Tree Corridor of Brentwood experienced a rash of commercial burglaries. Through the coordinated efforts of responding officers and their initial investigations, 49 year-old Marcus Palacios of Oakland, was identified as an involved suspect.

In the evening of February 17th, swing shift officers located Palacios’ vehicle and affected a traffic stop. A search of the vehicle revealed over four ounces of suspected methamphetamine and fentanyl, packaged consistent with the purpose of sale. Additional evidence related to the burglary series was found within the vehicle. More arrests related to this series are expected in the near future.

On February 22nd, the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s office filed multiple counts of burglary due the incidents in January of 2024 and burglaries that occurred in August of 2023, possession of dangerous drugs for the purpose of sale, and vandalism. Charges were also filed against Palacios for possessing an explosive device, after Oakley Police Department located a grenade launcher in Palacios’ vehicle during a joint Probation search.

Palacios remains in custody pending a preliminary hearing and his bail is set at $420,000.

Fun fact, a flare launcher is 1mm diameter smaller than a grenade launcher and looks exactly like the grenade launcher. 43 vs 42mm if I recall, but is a legal feature on a center fire rifle with the barrel breach option installed. The photo is not high resolution enough to make out what this item really is, but I’m sure all LEO’s are thoroughly versed on the differences /s. Then again, this Is California and between all the uzis and machine guns I’ve seen people getting caught with, and all of the felons with guns who shouldn’t have guns who would totally stop carrying prohibited weapons with their prohibited status if we would simply pass more gun control laws, I wouldn’t be surprised if this was the real deal.
