On Friday, Meals on Wheels Diablo Region Executive Director Caitlin Sly announced she would be leaving the organization after nearly four years. She has taken the position of President and CEO of the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano.

Caitlin Sly joined Meals on Wheels Diablo Region in 2020 and brought more than  10 years of extensive experience in anti-hunger work with an understanding of the food insecurity many seniors face. She previously served as Program Director at the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano. Caitlin also serves on the Board of the Walnut Creek Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Bureau, and Meals on Wheels California. She is a past Chair of the Board of the Greater Concord Chamber of Commerce.

In 2022, Sly was named Woman of the Year for District 14 by Assemblyman Tim Grayson.

The announcement came Friday she was leaving Meals on Wheels Diablo Region:

Dear Friends,

I am writing to let you know that I will be leaving Meals on Wheels Diablo Region at the end of March. It was an incredibly difficult decision, but I have taken the position of President & CEO of the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano. As you may know, the Food Bank is where I began my career working to fight food insecurity and I was presented with an opportunity I could not turn down. My last day with MOW Diablo Region will be March 21st.

After four years, I leave MOW Diablo Region with the strongest staff and Board in the organization’s history. I have been honored to work with them through some of the most difficult times – the Covid-19 pandemic, a fire in our building, and responding to an ever-growing need. These dedicated people showed resilience, creativity, intelligence, and a willingness to create new programs to serve the needs of the most vulnerable and overlooked people in our community – seniors.

The successes we had in the past four years were accomplished because of the contribution of all of us as a team, including our amazing volunteers and dedicated donors. I will always remain a champion of Meals on Wheels Diablo Region and the older adults we serve.

The Board of Directors has already begun the search for a new leader and will ensure someone is brought on who shares our vision that every older adult in Contra Costa County should be empowered to live independently for as long as possible.

I know I am leaving the organization in the hands of people with a commitment to improving the lives of our older neighbors. Thank you for your partnership and support during my time leading this incredible organization for the past four years.

Caitlin Sly
Executive Director

Sly was first hired in January 2020 citing her extensive experience with and understanding of the obstacles of food security many elderly in the Diablo Region face on a daily basis.
