Antioch to Discuss Ceasefire Resolution for Israel-Hamas War

by CC News
Antioch

On Tuesday, the Antioch City Council will discuss and possibly direct staff on a ceasefire resolution for the Israel-Hamas War. This will come during a special meeting.

No other information was provided in the agenda and no supporting documents or background was provided in the agenda.

1. DISCUSSION AND DIRECTION ON A CEASEFIRE RESOLUTION FOR THE ISRAEL-HAMAS WAR (PROPOSED BY COUNCILMEMBER TORRES-WALKER)

Recommended Action: It is recommended that the City Council discuss, receive public comments, and provide direction to staff on a proposed ceasefire resolution for the Israel-Hamas war

Back on October 26, without specifically naming Gaza and Israel, Antioch City Councilmember Tamisha Torres-Walker called for a ceasefire and urged leaders to condemn all terrorist actions on both sides.

ā€œPassive leadership is confusing, and it lacks pointedness. We should be reflecting what the world is going through right now and condemn all terrorist actions on both sides of the issue facing the Muslim and the Jewish community. We should all be calling for a ceasefire on all sides. We should be condemning colonialism in all its forms. In this moment we should be finding ways locally to be bringing together the Muslim and Jewish community and the discussion on how we build unity at the basic level. Free Palestine until its backwards, condemn terrorist actions on all sides and ceasefire.ā€

Her comments came during council communications but no future agenda item request were issued that night.

Torres-Walkerā€™s comments also come as the the Ā Richmond City Council Passes Resolution to Support Palestinians in Gaza. That meeting was 7-hours and had more than 200 public comments. The Richmond City Council ultimately voted 5-1 to approve a resolution affirming Richmondā€™s Support and Solidarity with the Palestinian People of Gaza.

Barbanica told Lamar he will not be there but the meeting is scheduled anyway. Kwame only sends Lori a text message about this meeting? Antioch is a mess. November cannot come fast enough. Focusing on the middle east when Antioch is a war zone and shootings are nightly. Stolen vehicles are on record pace and no one wants to work for the city.

Ceasefire halfway across the world but do nothing to stop crime and shootings in their own city? What idiots!

Enough is enough March 18, 2024 - 7:38 pm

This is just bizarre. How about a ceasefire in the streets of Antioch?! When will they be calling for that? When will special meetings be held to discuss that? Am I in the Twilight Zone??

Antioch City Council has NO business wasting their time and energy on something that has nothing to do with the city. At best, this is a feel good measure.

Instead, spend your time on Antioch that you have neglected. Full Stop!

A “special meeting” for this? This council just never learns from its mistakes.
