Firefighters Battle Vegetation Fire Threatening Homes in Antioch

At 1:45 pm Saturday, the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District responded to a vegetation fire in the City of Antioch.

The fire was reported on a hillside at Asilomar and Palomar. Upon Engine 88 crew arriving on scene, the fire was estimated at a 1/2 acre and was wind driven towards homes. Battalion 8 requested structure protection on Yorkshire.

The fire went two-alarm response and by 2:17 pm, firefighters were able to stop forward progress.

2:45 pm UPDATE: The fire was determined to be contained at just under 2-acres.

Other Fires Friday:

  • 9:41 am: Prior to this house fire, Contra Costa County fire responded to a field off Highway 4 and Lone Tree Way where a tractor was working, crews arrived to a 1/8 acre fire and were able to limit forward progress to around an 1-acre. That incident was closed in less than an hour.
  • 3:46 pm – CONFIRE respond to the area of 2700 block E Leland in Pittsburg for a vegetation fire but were quickly able to get it under control. No word yet on the size of that fire.

Other Fires Thursday

  • 2:56 pm – 4900 block Concord Blvd, Concord: This fire shot a huge cloud of smoke in the air that was picked up on the Mt. Diablo camera with crews responding and making a quick fire attack within the  City of Concord. Its estimate the fire was anyone between 1-acre to 3-acres in size. Crews did have access issues due to hose lengths and vehicle available to hit the terrain. At least one home was evacuated as a precaution.  No other details have been released
  • 3:49 pm – 1600 block Slatten Ranch Rd, AntiochThis fire started along the train tracks near the eBART at approximately 1/8 of an acre when the first crew arrived on scene, but due to afternoon wind is spread to a 2-alarm response and ultimately hit 20-acres within the City of Antioch . A sheriff helicopter was on scene providing water drops while crew 12 was on scene working the vegetation. The fire was contained, however, crews were dealing with not only vegetation, but homeless in the area, out buildings, equipment, PVC pipes and other miscellaneous items that burned.   • 4:33 pm – 1 Marina Plaza,  Antioch CA This fire began as a smoke investigation but quickly was determined to be a working vegetation fire with fire located in the Marsh Area behind the Marina. The fire moved to a 2-alarm response with structure protection and included water drops from the sheriffs office — this helicopter was pulled from the Slatten Ranch incident above. The fire was limited to 5-acres.
